A Summary of Ansteorran Court at Vindheim Coronet Tournament
As documented by Golden Staff Herald, Maitre Etienne De Saint Amaranth.
The day was mild. The site was indoors. The Canton of Wyldwood served as host for what promised to be an intense tournament. Illness following Ansteorran Crown tournament kept several away but was not seen on-site (thanks to all who had discretion and left illnesses at home).
This was December 14, the birthday of Tycho Brahe who was born in the traditional SCA period. While he studied stars and celestial majesty, attendees were treated to the stellar majesty that comes from the royal house of Ansteorra and its cadet line of Vindheim. This was the Feast of Saint Venantius Fortunatus, he who went nearly blind, but recovered his sight by anointing his eyes with oil from a lamp that burned before the altar of Saint Martin of Tours; considered the last of the Gallic Latin poets.
In morning court, Their Majesties, joined by Their Royal Highness, called for newcomers and Sable Shields and then deferred all other first business to Daffydd and Octavia, Prince and Princess of Vindheim. This report covers the Ansteorran court business but several worthies received recognition that morning. Following Vindheim’s business, Their Majesties had announced that Sir Arthur was holding several lost and found items from both Elfsea Defender and Crown Tournament. They then called forward, caught and finally awarded:
Eric of Mooneschadowe - Award of Arms (read into law 2024-05-18)
Lastly, they called forward the newly made King’s Blade of Chivalry holder, Centurion Alexandre Crane, and presented him with a paint box that goes with the blade so recipients can paint their arms on the scabbard or baldric. This box did not exist when His Majesty was the holder of the blade and it was not known to pass it along at Crown Tournament.
But they were not done with Centurion Alexandre and while he knelt before the Crown they had summoned the Knights and Masters of Arms of the Order of Chivalry. Alexandre will sit vigil and be elevated at a date to be announced.
Following the awards, Their Majesties then took Lillias MacGuffin and Facon du Prey and sat them on their vigils for the day while Vindheim continued armor inspections and everyone readied for the March of Precedence of the Combatants and Consorts entering Coronet Tournament.
The tournament ensued and it has been reported elsewhere. From this tournament, emerging victorious were:
- Uriangqadai Cinoajin - Territorial Prince
- Adria Lorelle - Territorial Princess
They immediately became Tanist and Tanista (heirs to the territorial principality and were crowned and enthroned at afternoon court following meetings with the Crown, the outgoing prince and princess and Vindheim officers of state).
Following the coronet tournament, there was a tournament for the Prince’s Champion.
Late afternoon court began with Ansteorra turning to Vindheim immediately and Their Serene Highnesses, Daffydd and Octavia, completing the last business items on their agenda. They then called for their heirs and Urianqadai and Adria came forward. Coronets were passed, the court of Daffydd and Octavia was closed, Urianqadai and Adria crowned themselves and then came to Their Royal Majesties to swear fealty for the lands they would now hold for the Crown.
The new Prince and Princess returned to their thrones, their court was opened and they received oaths from their officers, received their champions and announced the winner of the Prince’s Champion tournament. Their Serene Highnesses also bestowed upon:
- Daffydd Whitaker - Viscounty
- Octavia de Verdun - Viscounty
Their Royal Majesties resumed court and held a moment of silence for Uriah Wolfstar. They then again called for newcomers and Sable Shields.
They announced a change to kingdom law so that going forward the Vindheim Coronet tournament would occur in January and July instead of December and June.
Their Majesties called for the Order of the Pelican and elevated:
Lillias MacGuffin – Order of the Pelican
Additional awards presented were:
- Zubeydah al-Badawiyyah - Sable Thistle for Block Printing
- Uriangqadai Cinoajin - Sable Crane for Kitchen Support
- Cicily Bridges - Star of Merit
- Lyra Fiammetta Caravaggio - Sable Crane for Fighter Support
- Megan Flower del Wall - Sable Crane for Fighter Support
The Order of Defense was called and Their Majesties elevated:
Facon du Prey - Order of Defense
Court concluded and there was much rejoicing.
