Persona History:

I was born in Dieppe, which was the principal port city in Normandy, in 1578. My father, André, was a wool trader and did extensive business with the family of the Lady Robin Anderson of Ross. Her husband, Baron Conor Drummond, took me in as a valet, after my father died in 1594. My mother, Jeanne, remained in Dieppe with my younger sister, Geneviève, who married one of my father's apprentices, named David, who took over my father's wool trade. During my time at Baron Conor's estate in the lowlands of Scotland, I was taught how to fight, was taught to read and write, and was accepted as a member of the family. Baron Conor thought it best to train me to fight with a variety of weapons to help defend his estate against Border Reivers.

Eventually, the Baron of a Barony called Bryn Gwlad called Baron Conor to be the Captain of his Baronial Guard. I, along with his family, moved from the lowlands of Scotland to Bryn Gwlad, where Baron Conor helped me attend university. Currently, I still reside in the Barony of Bryn Gwlad and teach Rhetoric at the same university at which I was educated. While no longer a valet to Baron Conor, I remain close with him and his family.

Interests:

" I enjoy the SCA a great deal, and what drives me is the camaraderie, the sharing of knowledge both on the rapier field and in the arena of Arts and Sciences."

Rene' enjoys period fighting styles, particularly Rapier. Being a lover of the written word, his art interests include; writing sonnets, research on period poetry research papers, teaching poetry, and of course, documentation. He teaches a great class on documentation that you should catch if you have the chance. He also marshals often, serves feast, and gives his time in service whenever he can.

Prior Groups

When I first started, in 1992 or 1993 or so, I was with a group called Turris Aquilae (Borger, TX), but that group no longer exists. I stopped playing SCA in 1995 and didn't play SCA again until 2003. I've been a part of Bryn Gwlad since 2003.
