Getting Involved:

(05/01/2020) On this the new year of the SCA, I wanted to say something about my life "next door" to the SCA. I'm a fairly recent addition to the family, having started playing in my late 30's 5 years ago (later this month) My SCA career is younger than the MoDs. However, looking back, the SCA hovered next door to me most of my life.

I grew up in the shadow of Flag Pole Hill, where Steppes held practices and events throughout my childhood. We used to see the crazy people who would dress up and hit each other (those people are now my friends). I went to college at Rice University, the birthplace of SCA rapier.

And, rather literally, my sister now lives next door to the original SCA event house in Berkeley.

I am glad that I finally stepped over the line and joined the society.

Notable Contributions or Accomplishments:

• As Seneschal of Bryn Gwlad:
  • Initiated group adoption of using the website for communication to the Barony and utilized push notifications to the populace on their preferred platforms
  • Established practice of publishing an agenda prior to meetings
  • Co-Negotiated an indoor practice location, providing immediate positive results with 50 people attending and improving engagement
  • Worked with Sherwood Demo team to ensure the SCA was in a sound legal position for an 8 week long demo
  • Managed the full transition from late pandemic to normal operating conditions, including transfer of Baronial equipment, utilizing hybrid meetings, etc
  • Reduced the physical records of the office by 5/6ths, while maintaining document retention requirements and preserving baronial history
  • Oversaw Landed Nobility transition

• As Marshalate Secretary:
  • Converted all new account creation to online form, eliminating unnecessary bureaucracy and paperwork
  • Attended authorization-focused events to help with account creation and resolve user technical issues, and cleared a 12 month plus backlog of reported issues
  • Regular communication with and support for the fighting community
  • Worked with Marshalate Webminister to resolve multiple bugs in the AMA system, develop improvements and streamline the database
