There are two types of courage, physical and moral. Physical courage is the courage to put yourself in the way of physical harm.  Moral courage is the courage to do the right thing, no matter the cost.  Moral courage is not only the most difficult form of courage, it is the one most required for the SCA. Moral courage may come in the form of speaking up for the oppressed, calling out bad behavior, the courage to ask for help, or simply doing the right thing when no one is watching.
The finest example of physical courage I've ever seen in the SCA is HL Thomas de Groet. He was HG Sonja's voice when she was commanding on the heavy and rapier fields at Gulf Wars. He was terrified, but suited up and took the field out of duty to his Crown.  I've fought in real war, in real life, with some of the finest warriors the world has ever seen. HL Thomas displayed the same physical courage I've seen from Marines charging into intense enemy fire. That says something profound about his character, and I'm honored to call him my friend.

Magister Taran the Wayward, Kingdom of Meridies

I wish to thank publicly two of your populace for their service at Gulf Wars. One I know the name of, the other I sadly do not (but I believe is known to those I will mention (edit: and now known to share appropriate wordfame))

The opening processional of Gulf Wars is a fine tradition of pageantry, but often visiting Crowns do not have a herald within their traveling retinue. Such was the case this year.

I was seeking to recruit (perhaps recruit is too tame a term--draft is more accurate) heralds to represent some Crowns who needed appropriate representation. Most all of the voice heralds from my own kingdom were already engaged, so I sought assistance elsewhere.

When I approached members of Ansteorra, Thomas de Groet and Aldonza Gonzales Escajeda offered themselves to help.

Their efforts to represent Crowns not their own does great honor upon the Black Star Kingdom.

In gratitude,
Taran the Wayward, OP
