Persona History:

Mid-11th Century Welsh from the mountains of Gwynedd, above the pass of Llanberis. He was a minor scholar and administrator during the reign of His Majesty, King Gruffydd ap Llywelyn, Ruler of All Wales. After the death of Gruffydd, he wandered alone in other lands. Upon learning of the death of his brother, Dominique Charles de Blavier, he traveled to the Kingdom of Ansteorra.

While continuing to wander alone, for a short period of time he made his home in the Barony of Bryn Gwlad. Later, he would make his home on land north and east of the Baronies of Bordermarch and of Stargate, for a period of time regularly traveling to the Barony of Bordermarch to visit Dominique's friends Count Simonn of Amber Isle and Countess Tessa of the Gardens.

He was invited by Simonn and Tessa and their Excellencies Santiago de Monte Verde and Elisabeth of Green Mountain Keep, the Baron and Baroness of Bordermarch to make his home in Bordermarch and hold a position of service as an officer of that noble Barony but mundane matters compelled him to move again, and he regretfully had to decline the gracious and humbling honor offered to him of a land to call his home.

Many years later, he settled in the borderlands of northeast Ansteorra. He has rejoined the Society and is currently endeavoring to establish a new settlement along the border of Ansteorra and Gleann Abhann, east of the Shire of Rosenfeld and north of the Shire of Graywood. In this endeavor he has received support and encouragement from the surrounding Shires, the Barony of The Steppes, and from the Officers of the Kingdom of Ansteorra. His first event was the Last Court of Her Sovereign Majesty, Nicollet Deuville and the Coronation of Their Ansteorran Majesties, Sven IV and Antigone III.

Timeline of Activity:

Receiving an AOA

When I got my AoA in 1979, I had JUST turned 19 a month prior. The ship I was on coming back from my exile in England was supposed to dock in Houston on Feb 22 and I found out later that I was supposed to get my AoA at the Bryn Gwlad event on Feb. 24. That was also the night that Simonn and Tessa were christening Zane with a cross I had sent them from England. In reality, Feb 24 was the night my ship was in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean and we were hit by a rogue wave that honestly should have sunk us. In any case, no one really knew when I would actually be back and I think I got to Houston two days before the Tournament of Chivalry and managed to make it which is when I did get my AoA.

What brought this to mind is that when I got started with the SCA, I was an unaccompanied minor. I pretty much was "Ansteorran youth" and I was the the sum total of "your rapier." During my involvement when I was in high school, no one ever got any permissions sign by my parents, and they (my parents) just let me make my own plans for extra-curricular activites. In those days, I was very much the NOT normal case, I was an outlier in the Society for Consenting Adults. I was shy and very enthusiastic and found kind of a home. In fact, because of my age, Tessa and Kasilda announced that they adopted me. People were very good at looking out for me and the only problem I had was at an event just after I turned 18, so I wasn't a minor when that happened although I was still in high school.

So, what was my interesting thought about all of this? Well, I'm pretty sure that when I got my AoA I was the youngest person in Ansteorra to get one, and possibly in Atenveldt. I did look through the OP and, as far as I can tell, there were only 31 people who got their AoAs before I did who hadn't died, moved, or gotten higher recognitions... and some of those are listed as getting their AoAs from Atenveldt. But, prior the Jonathon's first coronation, I thought ALL awards were technically from the Aten Crowns. Also as I looked, I didn't see ANY names listed for AoAs who were younger than I was when they got theirs.

Returned to the SCA: 2024 - Present.

In Case of Court:

While he will indicate his respect and recognition to those of high standing, Ieuan will neither bow nor kneel to any title or rank. He reserves such gestures to those individuals that he wishes to honor on a personal level. He hopes that it is recognized that he means no disrespect nor dishonor by such.

Ieuan has difficulties being inside of large crowds and of being a center of attention. He will most often be found around the edges of gatherings, sitting when possible and giving welcome to any who chose to be near him. While he does not require advance notice of a need to be seen or noticed within a great gathering, he does ask that his discomfort at such attention be recognized if he seems hesitant as unease and not be seen as rudeness or disrespect.
