Timeline of Activity:

My husband and I were invited to a Hallowe’en party by a friend who needed a costume. We dressed my friend in my husband's late-period Tudor outfit, and we dressed as historically accurate pirates (late 17th century). We met the founding Baron and Baroness of Bonwicke Hakon and Anna at the party and talked for a long time. We traded contact information and kept me informed of meetings in Lubbock. I purchased a membership card in time for my first event - Bonwicke’s Artisan 2014. Since then I have jumped in with both feet! I have taught classes on hand-sewing, shoe-making, knitting, wire-work, calligraphy, and illumination including paint-making and leafing. I am happy to offer a class upon request.

Before even knowing about the SCA, Eleanor “became interested in the European Middle Ages when I was living and working overseas in Germany - I had a postdoctoral research position at a Research Institute in Goettingen, lower Saxony, Germany, and performed experiments at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility in Grenoble, France. There were medieval festivals ALL OVER THE PLACE in the spring and summertime, and I would go with friends from work. We all became quickly hooked and started making our own costumes and shoes to feel like less of a tourist. When my husband finished his PhD at George Augustus University, we decided to move back to North America. I obtained a research position at Texas Tech University in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, where I run a cancer biophysics lab. When we first moved to Lubbock, we attended Renaissance Faires until I joined the SCA. My family has had a recent addition - our wonderful dog Peanut. I hope that she can attend events soon, when she’s a little bit more mellow around people. Most of my hobbies and interests were easily integrated into the SCA - clothing design and assembly, knitting, and jewelry making. I also enjoy designing celtic knots and incorporating them into knitting patterns.”

Special Needs:

In Case of Court:

I am a diabetic. Closing courts typically over-run most people's dinner time. I need to do a blood glucose test before evening court and eat snacks during court. People close to me usually give me a prod to make sure I do these things because I get easily distracted at events. If you know I will be called into court, please make sure I do a blood glucose test in advance. Additionally, due to an ongoing knee problem, I can no longer kneel.
