Offices of the College of Heralds

The College of Heralds is a group of hardworking volunteers who assist the Kingdom of Ansteorra and the Society of Creative Anachronism in various areas relating to Heraldry:

• "Book heraldry" - the registration of a name or device or badge.
• "Voice heraldry" - providing service during a Court on behalf of Nobility or Royalty, calling individuals into court, announcing goings on, and reading scrolls.
• "Lyst heraldry" - assisting with coordinating/calling individuals to enter the field of combat in a tournament.

Kingdom Level Heralds

• Star Principal Herald : The head of the College of Heralds for the Kingdom of Ansteorra
• ER Deputy: The deputy to the Star Principal Herald
• Golden Staff Herald : The Crown's (voice) Herald. A non-warranted position that is appointed by each Crown. Reports to the Star Principal Herald.
• Sable Scroll Pursuivant: The Crown's scribe, ensuring that award charters are produced and inscribed with recipient names. A non-warranted position that is appointed by each Crown. Reports to the Star Principal Herald.
• Arbalest Herald: Submitter Relations - Serves as a heraldic “help desk” for individuals experiencing issues with the heraldic submissions process.
• Asterisk Herald: Internal Submissions Processing - coordinates work on the kingdom level for heraldry submissions to the College.
• Bordure Herald: External Submissions Processing - Coordinates work on heraldry submissions that have completed review within Ansteorra and been submitted up to Society for review.
• DEIB Herald: Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging Herald -
• Fountain Herald: The Coronet's Herald. A non-warranted position that is appointed by each Coronet of the Principality of Vindehim. Reports to the Star Principal Herald.
• Orle Herald: Herald in charge of commentary.
• Rowel Pursuivant:
• Obelisk Herald: Webminister for the College of Heralds
• Sable Roundel: the most immediately-preceding Star Principal Herald, available as counsel and assistant to the current Star Principal Herald.
• Sigillarius Herald: Graphics and social media
• Sable Crane Herald: Achievement Registration. Assists individuals with the registration of their full Heraldic Achievement, including mantling, supporters, crest, etc.
• Zodacus Herald: Updates the Kingdom Order of Precedence based on court reports received after each event. Adds records for individuals who have moved into Kingdom.
• Actuarius Pursuivant: Maintains warranting materials and provides warranting classes at selected events; reports to Tressure Herald.
• Armillary Pursuivant: Librarian of the College, oftentimes transporting tangible (book) resources to events that are hosting a heraldry table. Reports to Tressure Herald.
• Tressure Herald: Oversees the function of the educational branch of the College.
• Silent Herald: Promotes silent heraldry (sign language translation during Court) within the Kingdom and provides sign language services at select events.
• Scribal Liaison: Provides coordination and introductions for individuals seeking to commission a scribe for Peerage and other awards for which a scroll was not received. When this role is empty, this duty is coordinated by Star Principal Herald.

Regional Level Heralds

• Sanguine Bastion Herald: Administrative Herald for the Principality of Vindheim.
• Eclipse Herald: Administrative Herald for the Central Region.
• Solstice Herald: Administrative Herald for the Southern Region.

Group Heralds

• Western Cross Pursuivant: Group Herald for the Barony of Bonwicke
• Nautilus Pursuivant: Group Herald for the Barony of Elfsea
• Oakenwald Pursuivant: Group Herald for the Barony of the Steppes
• Callisto Pursuivant: Group Herald for the Barony of Bjornsborg
• Silent Trumpet Pursuivant: Group Herald for the Barony of Bordermarch
• Halberd Pursuivant: Group Herald for the Barony of Bryn Gwlad
• Serpentine Pursuivant: Group Herald for the Barony of Loch Soilleir
• Raven's Heart Pursuivant: Group Herald for the Barony of Ravens Fort
• Sentinel Pursuivant: Group Herald for the Barony of Stargate
• Gunstone Pursuivant: Group Herald for the Barony of Eldern Hills
• Sable Storm Pursuivant: Group Herald for the Barony of Mooneschadowe
• Sable Tower Pursuivant: Group Herald for the Barony of Northkeep
• Candelaio Pursuivant: Group Herald for the Barony of Wiesenfeuer

College of Scribes

• Star Signet: As the head of the College of Scribes, the Star Signet is responsible for the oversight of the scribal needs of the Kingdom, including: the creation of original scrolls and insignia, the approval of designs and distribution of new charter designs, an assisting regionals in arranging education for all scribal related arts and sciences for the Kingdom. Star Signet also oversees the officers that make up the College of Scribes.
• Golden Scroll Pursuivant: Coordinates replacements for awarded charters that have been damaged or destroyed.
• Insignia Deputy: Educates and encourages the populace in the design and development of quality and quantity insignia (non-warranted)
• Scribal Historian: Works to preserve the history of the COS within Ansteorra (non-warranted)
• Special Documents Deputy: Maintains Ansteorran award charter texts, achievement tests, and award constitution documents; non-warranted; works closely with both Star and Star Signet

Regional Scribes

• Pillar Signet - Vindheim Regional Scribe. Assists with the coordination of original works within the Principality of Vindheim.
• Central Region Scribe: Assists with the distribution of blank charters and the collection of finished work for transportation up to Star Signet.
• Southern Region Scribe: Assists with the distribution of blank charters and the collection of finished work for transportation up to Star Signet.
