Persona History:

Siegmund Walter was born in the spring of 1501 in the city of Wurtzburg, to Hermann and Eyda. His childhood was the average of one in a mercantile family. Setting out with hopes of fame and riches in his early adulthood, he found himself in service to Götz of the Iron Hand, as a mercenary during the conflict with the Swabian League in 1519. Adopted into a unit of Landsknecht, Siegmund was taught the ways of the pike, the Zweihänder, and the Katzbalger. His service with Götz and his units concluded in 1525 with the onset of the German Peasants' War, when he learned of their intention to stand against the Emperor. He reported to the Imperial Army and was conscripted against the uprising before being called to fight in the Italian Wars. Siegmund, now a veteran of the Landsknecht ways, served as a doppelsöldner in the Battle of Pavia, wielding his mighty pike breaker against the French mercenaries. For his loyalty to the German Empire, Siegmund was granted a title and land taken from Götz of the Iron Hand, following his imprisonment. His service to the Empire ended after the start of the Sack of Rome in 1527. Returning to a mercenary livelihood, Siegmund uses his battlefield experience to benefit the ragtag family of malcontents he now finds himself apart of.

During the field at war of the Rams,We were on the breaking point fighting for Glenn Ahbann. Outnumbered, defensive, and watching the Ansterroan spears methodically pick us apart. If we remained passive we were dead men.

Their line was a nasty affair reinforced with many Centurions. The Ansteorran line was curving to meet our position, and that curvature left fleeting, wicked gaps. I was to the right, struggling to keep my section from collapsing, but I saw the whole thing unfold to my left where Siegi was holding.

He wasn't looking at the enemy’s numbers; he was looking at the gap. He saw his chance for a suicidal opportunity for an oblique charge. Most men would wish they had a full unit for a move like that, but Siegi? He signaled me and ran for it.

His charge was pure, reckless poetry—a perfect, oblique run straight into a trio of Centurions. He hit them like a stone dropped from a tower. In the blink of an eye—perhaps three seconds—he’d engaged and shoved three of their largest, most experienced fighters. He didn't kill them, but he didn't need to. He buckled the enemy formation, disrupting the perhaps deadliest centurion trio Gaslyn had to offer, and cracked the line wide open.

When that happened, their flanks wavered right into my spear range. I didn’t waste the gift. While I went to work on the panicked, disorganized mob, Siegi completed his masterpiece. That single act of magnificent, perfect timing cost the enemy at least half a dozen fighters before he finally ran out of momentum. He spun, dodged their returning glaives and halberds, and executed a flawless, fighting retreat back into the protection of our shields.

It was a maneuver that changed the tide of that pass, executed by a solitary man. Ask any Centurion who survived that day, and they’ll tell you Siegi put the fear of God into them in that moment. That man is dangerous, and he is welcome beside me any time.

• The Thunderbolt of Vindheim: The Tale of Siggi's Thunderbolt, as told by Viscount Micauley Morison: During the Castle Battle this year at Gulf Wars, our tremendous Allies from Calontir were slotted to take the role of the "hammer" to knock their way through the front door of the castle. However, one of the biggest difficulties of that job is that the attacking unit is quite vulnerable to combat archers. Calontir's army had resolved themselves to heavy losses, but the Free Company noticed an opportunity to cover our allies, by putting War Boards (our large war shields) over the crenellations of the castle. This position is difficult to do physically, and one that is not glamorous or exciting. But holding a shield over those crenellations meant that Siggi and Ajax, as two relative newcomers, could shield Calontir's army from significant damage at the cost of a night of lumbar back pain. His Serene Highness Romanius, ever the tactician, noted the contribution of the Free Company and Siggi in particular, for taking up a thankless position for the sake of our victory, and acknowledged his efforts during court at Gulf Wars.
