The Words of the Coronet

Attention - All armored and rapier combatants of Vindheim!
Her Sanguine Highness and I have coordinated with the event steward of Vindheim Summer War Maneuvers and he has graciously created time in the day's busy schedule to host Our Prince and Princess' Championships! Both of Our tournaments are intended to highlight three things that We see as important aspects of a champion: Personal Skill at Arms, Leadership, and the Trust of their Companions in Arms. As with most of Our predecessors, we will expect Our Champions to attend us at the majority of the events We plan to attend, or coordinate with Us to have someone stand in for them for any event they cannot, as well as be Our sounding board, one of Our counselors, and stalwart companions during Our reign so the winner of each tournament may not be chosen as the Champion, as We will be watching during the bouts to observe for particular skill, honor, and excitement on the field.
Both tournaments will also require a declaration of intent from a current citizen of Vindheim, sent to Our emails ( prince@vindheim.ansteorra.org and princess@vindheim.ansteorra.org ), no later than noon on Wednesday July 22nd, to be permitted entry as a competitor. That being said, We invite one and all to come, bring your preferred weapons of war, and fight as participants and armies for those entering to be Our champions.

HSH Alexandre's Prince's Champion-
His Sanguine Highness wishes to reach back into the history of the North and host a one-day revival of an old but fondly remembered tradition once known as "Northern Regional Warlord", with a slight modification. All those seeking the title of Prince's Champion will be randomized onto a bracket and then be released to rally and fight with armies from the pool of those not competing to their cause and defeat all others who would stand in their way. There will be no minimum or maximum limit on the number of fighters a team may hold per round and once each round ends by having the last man standing, each fighter returns to the overall pool to be recruited for the next round until only two competitors remain to clash in a grand melee. In the event of a 3-way final, the first team to lose twice in a round robin style pairing will be eliminated, leaving the final two teams to compete for the title.

HSH Yzabeau's Princess' Champion-
Her Sanguine Highness invites all who wish to vie for the honor to her Her personal champion to form small armies, and lead them to victory through the use of strategy and coordination in a point buy style. Each entrant will be allotted a total of 5 points to create their army with Martial Peers being worth 3 points, Martial Grants of Arms being worth 2 points, and those having been awarded Martial Awards of Arms or below being worth 1 point. The team captain does not count toward these totals but MUST take the field and fight with their team. Competitors will be placed into a randomized bracket and compete until only two teams remain to fight to the last man standing. In the event of a 3-way final, the first team to lose twice in a round robin style pairing will be eliminated, leaving the final two teams to compete for the title.

Summer War Maneuvers certainly lived up to its name, with Oklahoma's summer heat making for a challenging day on the field. Even so, every combatant met the melees with honor and courtesy, and the tournaments were a wonderful display of the chivalry that defines our Society. We are deeply grateful to everyone who fought, marshaled, taught, served, or cheered from the sidelines.

It is our great pleasure to recognize those who have earned the honor of serving as our champions. Please join us in congratulating Centurion Karl Hungus, our Champion to His Highness, and Lord Oddr Snorrason, my Champion. We look forward to the coming months with these noble warriors standing beside us.

We are also delighted to announce that Honorable Lady Toinette de Cambrai has accepted the role of Court Musician for our reign. Her talent and generosity will bring joy and beauty to our courts, and we cannot wait to share her gifts with the people of Vindheim.

To everyone who braved the Oklahoma summer to join us, you made the day a success, and we are honored to reign over such a remarkable populace. We can't wait to see the event grow next year... perhaps with a little more air conditioning!

We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Centurion Gunnarr Bjornulfsson for his flexibility throughout the day. As event steward, he handled every challenge with good humor and grace, helping ensure the event was a success despite the heat. We are grateful for all of his hard work.

As discussed in court, His Highness and I would like to extend a heartfelt invitation to all citizens of Vindheim to share in a moment of honor during court. Throughout our reign, the Sword of State stands as a symbol of the strength and unity of our principality. We invite any citizen of Vindheim that is over 18, including those that have been awarded the Sanguine Bowl, to take part in that symbolism by holding the Vindheim Sword of State during court.

What a weekend!
We spent the weekend in the Barony of Mag Mor in the Kingdom of Calontir for Cattle Raids, this year with the delightful theme The Cow Jumped Over the Moon. And what better way to celebrate than by getting on horseback?
Both of Us had the opportunity to ride, with His Highness trying target archery from horseback for the first time! Her Highness had the particular joy of riding a giant horse named Chewy (just 18 hands tall), bringing back fond memories of when She rode much more frequently. It was wonderful to be back in the saddle, even if She may have forgotten some of the finer points.
Calontir was celebrating a whole swath of birthdays this week, including Her Sanguine Highness and Our wonderful host, His Excellency Andromir Vukovic, who could not have been more kind, helpful, and welcoming. One particularly talented member of the Calontir populace even made a spectacular birthday cake for the occasion!
After court, feast was every bit as delightful as the rest of the weekend. Their Majesties of Calontir, Øyríkr and Alicia, graciously invited Us to sit with Them, and We had a marvelous time. The feast was adorable and delicious, right down to the freshly baked, cow-spotted bread in the first course!
And then came the jousting.
It was absolutely spectacular to watch, and We were especially delighted when Mistress Eowyth þa Siðend took the victory wearing Vindheim's colors, just for Her Highness's birthday! We adore Eo, one of the holders of Ansteorra's Amicitia, and she is frankly far too cool for her own good.
We were also delighted to see some Vindhomies during the weekend! Her Grace Gilyan participated in the horseback archery competition and was AMAZING, and I enjoyed spending time with Koke Gan and Milokhna della Riga. Koke even entered Mag Mor's Blank Borders scribal competition with two VERY adorable cow-themed entries. I told His Highness that Namron would be terribly jealous.
Most of all, We are grateful to the people of Calontir and Mag Mor for their exceptional hospitality. From the riding to the feast, the jousting to the birthday celebrations, We felt incredibly welcomed and had an absolutely wonderful time.

His Sanguine Highness and I are in the middle of our marathon of events! Starting this weekend, We're attending Elfsea Baronial College, where We will have the pleasure of helping to celebrate two Vindhomies as they receive well-deserved honors. Honorable Lady Megan Flower de Wall will be elevated to the Order of the Pelican, while Her Excellency Octavia de Verdon will join the Order of the Mark. We cannot wait to cheer them on!

Next, We will tumble down the rabbit hole to Bonwicke’s War of Legends. We always have a wonderful time with Our friends in Bonwicke, and We hope to see plenty of Vindhomies there too, as there will be plenty to do including the Kingdom Thrown Weapons championship, a Centurion Circle, and an Arc d'Or Circle, just to name a few of the highlights!

September 12th brings Us to the Shire of Graywood for Kingdom Arts and Sciences. I am particularly excited to see Our Vindhomies sharing their projects and passions, while both of Us look forward to seeing the incredible work being presented by Ansteorra’s artisans as they vie for the Kingdom Arts and Sciences Championship!

Then We finish September at Moonschadowe’s Provincial Games, where Her Highness will host ~Sanguine Sips~! She invites the rapier community to join Her for an afternoon of friendship, conversation, and snackies. Master Perrin is serving as Her liaison to the community, Mistress Adria (Terry Smith) is coordinating the snacks, and Mistress Tatiana (Melissa) is handling the decorations. If you would like to lend a hand or help provide snacks please reach out to one of these excellent Peers!

After these events, we will be just into the third month of the reign with plenty more to come! Don't forget to submit your award recommendations on AMP (amp.ansteorra.org) or in person via Hive Mind!
