Timeline of Activity:

Joined the SCA because of a girl (cliche, right?) who was already involved in it. We met in European history class, started dating. She took me to a couple of SCA events my freshmen and sophomore year (1992-1993), learned a little bit about rapier fighting from Puck One Shoe in Mooneschadowe but we broke up, and college took over completely.

About a year or so after graduation from college (1997), I was actually floundering from too much free time, and ran into a college friend, who had got involved in the SCA in Mooneschadowe. She told me they were going to an event that weekend, and invited me along. I found my old garb, and went to a Crown Tournament held at Camp Will Rogers, where I believe Duke Jean Richard won his second crown tournament.

Prior Groups:

Mayyyyybe Weisenfeur, a little bit, when I was in high school for about 3 months before I went to college. I think I even went to one populace meeting in Eddie's wood shop (if that's the right name). From then on, it's completely Mooneschadowe

I aspire to really display the virtue of charity, which is tied to the Greek word for love - agape. It means having a genuine caring for all people. Like Jean Paul.

Here is the story. It was after a Moonschadowe fighter practice. Several of us from Northkeep, His (then and now once again) Highness Jason and several from OKC area, some Eldern hills fighters, and of course all the fighting Moonschadowe had been at practice and then gone Finnegan's bar for after-blam beer. I say this to set the stage. We had first day new people, hot sticks, and older veterans. The stories were good; it was very enjoyable.

Then, up rides this guy on a bicycle, asking for a cigarette. He then hung around. He was sweating, pale, looking around in a sort of little paranoid manner. But most of us were having our own fun, seeing folk we don't often see and all. JP, though, he sees this guy - clearly on some drug, even if the only drug was booze and fear - and asks how his night was going.

"I'm just trying not to get shot," the young man replies. He then explains how some "bad dudes" were gunning for him and he didn't know where to go to avoid them. To me, something in the story sounded fake or off, and my thought would be to at most offer to call the police.

JP though... JP cares. He has that Charity virtue. JP turned away from his SCA friends having a good time, and dealt with a stranger having a problem. He says, in a voice like we all wish our dads used, "Well son, let's focus on you not getting shot and work this out."

JP then took his time to talk the guy down from his paranoid state. Spent time to get the dude calm and chill, till the man changed his manner and was able to leave in a better headspace.

Whenever I am asked to explain the virtue of Charity, that is my go to story.
