The Processional of the Knighting of Owen ap Aeddan ap Trahearn ap Llewellyn ap Gruffudd ap Gwent ap Bredd ap Camden ap Anarward.
Provided by Signeuer Etienne de St. Amaranth, Star Principal Herald, reprinted with permission of S. Etienne & Sir Owen.

This document only includes the text used during the processional and does not include the entire ceremony. This processional format used a specifically period format; the Crown sent a royal herald to go forth and get Owen. Owen also had his own herald so the conversational play below is between the royal herald (RH) and Owen’s herald (OH). Once Owen was delivered to the Crown and announced, the standard ceremony continued. There is some humor included; banter between the heralds, references to the age of Owen’s knight, etc. that were included at either Owen’s request or the request of Sir Burke, his knight.

Prior to calling Owen, the members of the Order of Chivalry were summoned and were gathered about the Crown.

The text below begins when a Royal Herald is dispatched to get Owen.

The first two lines below were said at the same time as the RH and OH competed to start the processional.

Royal Herald: The Crown summons Owen ap Aeddan…
Owen's Herald: Now comes hither Owen ap Aeddan…
[Both heralds pause. Someone in the crowd actually said aloud “Oh no! Dueling heralds!” and made banjo noises; that was not in the script but was the intent.]

Royal Herald: I speak with the voice of the Crown; you will follow my lead.
Owen's Herald: I speak with the voice of Owen; you will need to speak loudly.

[During the next set of statements, the RH takes one step towards Owen’s processional group as he speaks each line. It was timed so that he arrived face-to-face with OH at the end of this section.]

Royal Herald: By this writ is your lord summoned before the court of the Crown of Ansteorra.

[Royal Herald hands a rolled “writ of summons” to OH. Both RH and OH turn to face the Crown. As the “Summoned…” line is spoken in the section below, each member of the processional takes a step forward, towards the Crown. As the first “Summoned…” line is spoken, Owen’s guard move ahead and take their places along the route.]
