General Information
The Canton of Glaslyn is part of a lineage of groups in the Denton area. In the years of the second decade A.S. (the mid-70s) students from then-North Texas State University attempted to make a Canton of the Barony of the Steppes, the Canton of Dent. However, with membership and paperwork struggles, the group could never quite get off the ground and become official.
In A.S. XIV (1980), a core group managed to make regular appearances, attending practices, and putting together the requisite paperwork to form the Canton of Glaslyn, a name voted on by the membership. By A.S. XIX (1984), the group’s name and device were registered, and they hosted events such as King’s College, Kingdom War College, and the Heraldic Symposium. Unfortunately, like the attempt before, the transient nature of its student population meant the membership wasn’t enough to prevent the group from shrinking and finally going dormant in A.S. XXI (early 1987). Glaslyn awakened again in the early 1990’s, but once again could not sustain itself, and went dormant.
In A.S. XXXII (1998) a new group of members pledged that the Canton would die and be reborn no more – transitioning from an Incipient (provisional) group to a full Canton in A.S. XXXV (2000). The charge of the Canton was then changed to a Phoenix in recognition of its origins in a cycle of rebirths. Since rising from these flames, Glaslyn has remained active and continued to grow.
