Persona History:
Cornelia Thorpe was born in 1336 (14th century) London.
- Her father, David Thorpe (English, Born: 1310) and mother, Emeline Marcant (Northern French/Rouen, 1313) they met while he was traveling as a Mercer.
- They were married in 1325.
- Her older brother of 5 years (Born 1326), died in Hundred Years War as Yeoman archer at the Siege of Calais in 1346 of dysentery (known as the "bloody flux").
- Her mother follows soon and dies at 1348 of the plague.
- They fled the black plague to a country villa in Florence, where he met and married his second wife in 1352, she could not bear children.
- She was tutored by her new Florentine mother and the best money could buy in order to take over her father's business.
This made Cornelia under law a Femme converte, where under her father's tutelage was allowed to do business.
- He retired in 1353 and gave control of the business to Cornelia when she turned 21.
- As a Fabric Mercer, she engaged in extensive trade with the Low Countries (like Flanders), France, Italy, and the Baltic and North Sea regions. She traveled to these regions to buy and sell goods, with Bruges (in particular serving as a major international trading hub.)
Cornelia married in 1355, when she was 24 to a Flemish landed gentry of good birth, Zegher Gughelare.
- She bought a Ardennais mare from him while she was traveling with my father as he was a son of a Hanseatic merchant.
After her father died in 1359, Cornelia and her husband purchased a manor in Ansteorra. They continue the family business and Cornelia pursues her hobbies of fiber arts, rabbit and horse husbandry, archery, leather working, embroidery, and brewing.
