Ogreball is violent and glorious game loosely based off "The Game" in the 1989 Movie: Blood of Heroes (or The Salute of the Jugger starring Rutger Hauer and Vincent D'Onofrio). The Game involves two armored teams of five or more attempting to "score" by getting Flossie (see pic to right) into the opposing team's endzone. The Game starts with each team in their respective endzones. A call of lay-on starts the game, usually resulting in each team rushing to centerfield to retrieve or control Flossie. One player, the "quick" runs with Flossie while being protected by his/her teammates from attack by the opposing team. Anyone handling Flossie is engaged with everyone on the field regardless of line of sight and subject to attack. Flossie can be used as a shield, battering ram, and weapon (her legs are the legal thickness of rattan). Anyone stuck while holding Flossie must immediately drop her. Normal engagement and blow calling is in effect for both melee teams. Any combination of legal SCA weapons or shields may be used, with the caveat that anyone carrying Flossie must be wearing gauntlets to protect the hands. Anyone "killed" during gameplay must return to their endzone to be resurrected and cannot affect the game until they do so. Any part of Flossie crossing into an endzone is considered a goal worth 1 point and game resets. Games are usually played to 3 points or to the limit of the fighter's stamina. The victorious team is granted "Prima Nocta" and Flossie's services for one night.

The Great House of RHOADD

History

If memory serves correctly, The Great House of RHOADD was formed in the late 90s after the late Sir Dietrich Kempenich von Eltz was teasing the founder: Sir Corwin von Xanten, that "his boys looked like a bunch of Road Warriors". Referring to the second film in the Mad Max franchise because most of their armor was piecemealed together from bits of scrap, street signs, and used football pads. Rather than take it as an insult, Sir Corwin leaned into it replying "Yessss, we are the Warriors of RHOADD." As his squires started fighting in and winning tournaments, their brothers could be heard on the sidelines yelling out with pride: RHOADD! This may also be the reason RHOADD is always spelled in All Caps. Soon after the Household was created and began it's expansion, eventually encompassing warriors from across the Kingdom.
RHOADD is a fun loving household that earned a reputation of fighting hard and partying harder, sometimes boisterous and lacking decorum, but always in a jovial manner. Top contenders for the House Motto are "I do what I WANT!" and "All Your Base are Belong to Us."

Induction into the Household

Getting into RHOADD starts with simply asking the Great Moosiah or any of the Commanders (identified by the shoulder dags on the Household Tabard). Candidates are usually discussed informally amongst the Commanders, but the final decision is sometimes mulled over in a Household meeting (rare) with a vote by current members. Required attributes are nebulous but could include: Fighting ability, special skills (cooking, brewing, drumming, armoring, sewing), leadership qualities, alcohol tolerance, appearance, scent, charisma, or general goofiness. Turn-offs include: brown nosers, political animals, creepiness, anger issues, low IQ, and Uber geekiness.

Once approved, a candidate is dogpiled by his fellow warriors, presented with a Household Tabard and/or favor (lucky ones may also receive a RHOADD amulet or other Household bling), and begins his/her initiation which can include some good natured hazing, name calling, piggyback rides, and a night of Beer B#%tch duty which includes wearing a silly hat and shouldering the Horn of Plenty (AKA: BFH or BMF), keeping it full by any means necessary, and/or fetching tasty beverages for the veteran warriors.
