Champions of Northkeep

Timeline

The group achieved its first few baby steps back in 1976, when lady Agnes de Saint Michel moved to Tulsa, and began posting flyers here and there. A small group started up. In 1977, they chose the name, 'Nord-aus-das Strom' which translates to 'North of the Storm.'

Its first populace meeting was held in 1978. For the next few years, notable individuals such as William Blackfox and Alanna of Caer du Pard helped to shape the group.

1979 marked the first event sponsored by the Shire: "Willow's War." The event was attended by the Crown of Atenvelt at the time, Jonathan DeLaufyson and Willow de Wisp, and the Prince and Princess of the Principality of Ansteorra, Simon of the Amber Isles and Tessa of the Gardens.

In January of 1990, the first wInterKingdom collegium event is hosted by Northkeep, and May of 1990, the first Castellan event was held. Daniel Blackaxe wins the first Castellan title. Willow de Wisp is named Premier Bard. Alanna of Caer du Pard is made a Peer of the Realm, by invitation to the Order of the Laurel. The group also works on a variety of community service projects, including doing clean up of the local highways.

May 1991 - Castellan II - The Castellan Title is won by Isabella de Bosque, and the Title Bard is Kieran o' Connacht.

May 1992 - Castellan III - Lord Andrew Selwyn wins the Castellan, and the title Bard is the Honorable Lord Robert Fitzmorgan.

May 1993 - Castellan IV: The event ends abruptly as the site becomes flooded, leaving much glory unclaimed. The event is nicknamed, 'The Year the Lake Won.' However, Lady Ismet al Din Bithiah won Title Bard.

December 1993 - Dunstana Talana the Violet joins the Order of the Laurel.

January 1994 - Northkeep hosts its fifth wInterKingdom collegium.

May 1994 - CASTELLAN V is won by Lord Timothy la Courvoisier, and Lord Puck One Shoe is named Title Bard.

September 1994 - Our first Dionadair In-Shire Tourney is won by Lord Guest Grimsson.

1995 is named 'The Year of Sorrows' as several people in the Northern Region and Northkeep are lost, including Kendra Kenmare, for whom the armigerous Baronial Service award is named.

May 1995 - CASTELLAN VI is won by Lord Thorvald Egilsson, and Lady Rhiannon Redwolf is named Title Bard.

October 1995 - Dionadair In-Shire Tourney is won by Hersir Thorgrim Bjornson.

May 1996 - Castellan: This year, the Shire of Northkeep altered the structure of the event, making Castellan a more challenging title to win. Lord Merrik Viltâr Hâr takes the Drighton Title, and Lady Therese Maria Giovanni wins Provost. Marksman goes to Lord Andrew Selwyn, and the HL Robert Fitzmorgan wins Title Bard. The Premiere Artisan is Lady Maeve Kelly de Navarre.

November 1996 - Northkeep becomes a barony! Thorgrim Bjornson and Sigen Frideriksdottir serve as the founding Baron and Baroness. They create a non-armigerous service award, the Cornerstone of Northkeep, and an armigerous service award, The Order of the Lions Paw of Kenmare, which refers to Kendra Kenmare and her device/arms.

Lady Conal O'Reardon wins the title of Provost, and Baron Aethelstan Aethelmearson wins Marksman and Bard. The Baronial Archer is Lord Carlyle de Troy.

The Baronial Drighton is won by Lord Jean-Paul de Sens, and Lord Stephan Hawkins becomes Baronial Provost. Marksman is taken by Lord Magnus Fine Hare Duffuss. Annabelle Fitzsimmons becomes the Baronial Artisan, and Lord Braden Longhair shoots his way to Baronial Archer. The Title Bard is the HL Giovani de Cellini. For the children, Boo takes the Castellan title. Megan D'Augbiny wins the youth rapier, and Kitty takes Bardic.

June 2002 - Castellan XIII - The Baronial title of Castellan is unclaimed. The Drighton sword is claimed by Randal Lee. Baronial Provost is Don Pachomius Un Zapato (Puck One Shoe). Fintan O'Quigg takes Baronial Marksman. The honor of Baronial Title Bard is won by Lord Llewellyn Bryddid.

October 2002 - The Dionadair Tournament is won by Lord Evan der Fultime. Honorable Lady Theresa Maria Giovanni wins the Ensign Tournament.

May 2003 - Castellan XIV - HL Elric Dracwin is named Castellan, and takes home many prizes including a handsome, hand carved wooden chest. Kendrick is named Children's Castellan. The new Baronial Drighton is Sir Asoph Hearts. Baronial Provost is held by Lord Rafe Slater. Baronial Marksman is Lord Ottokar Luther von Holstein. Title Bard is won by Kasha Ivonova (at her first event, no less!), and artisan is Karl Tarlson. HL Elric Dracwin also wins Baronial Archer. Other Children's Awards include Brittany for Thrown Weapons, Kendrick for Bardic, and Josh Ap Artorius for Older Childrens' Archery. Lady Olivia de Calais took the 12 and older A&S Competition with a hand embroidered favor, made for her personal champion, Hersir Thorgrim Northkeep. The 12+ prowess champion was Kendrick.

Fall 2003 - Mooneschadowe Guardian - His Excellency, Ainar Magnusson, Baron of Northkeep, wins the Marskman competition.

Winter 2003 - wInterKingdom: Lord William receives a Cornerstone of Northkeep. Zubeydah Jamilla al-Badawiyyah is made a Master Waterbearer and the Northern Regional Waterbearer during court.

June 2004 - Northkeep hosts a demo at the J. M. Davis Gun Museum. Castellan: A very soggy Castellan is held, attended by His Royal Highness, Drake. Serena Dominici and Owen ap Aeddan provide entertainment at feast, during a bardic duel, with Owen being the eventual winner. Ian Dun Gillian won the Artisan competition, and was then promptly given a Sable Thistle in map-making. Sir Jean Paul de Sens won both the Meatgrinder Award and the title of Drighton with an amazing 24 bouts and 22 wins. Lady Olivia de Calais won the Youth Rapier, and Youth Bardic. Youth Castellan Champions: (Younger) Colton, (Older) Kelrich. Overall CASTELLAN champion is Centurion Owen ap Aeddan. James Navarre wins Provost, and Arthur Blackmoon wins the Archery competition. The Marksman title is taken by Grayden Mongo's man. Renault du Mont St. Michel, Katrine la Escolpiera, Deborah of Lemburg, Damon Zanthus and Aethelred of the Broken Shield receive Awards of Arms. Zubeydah Jamilla al-Badawiyyah receives a Sable Crane. Elizabeta & Beohrtlic were granted Court Baronetcies. Crimson Stars were presented to Finton O'Quigg and Ottokar Luther von Holstein. For his tireless work with the children with rapier combat, Facon duPray is granted a Compass Rose. Lucan Silverwolf received a Sable Thistle in Woodworking, and Dairmaid O'Dunn was made a Companion to the Order of the Lion's Paw of Kenmare. Lord Arthur Blackmoon was granted a King's Archer, Angus Gunn received a Sable Thistle in Armoring, and Kelandra Carmichael received a Thistle for her Iconography work. Llewelyn Briddid ap Dafydd Hen of Mooneschadowe received an Iris of Merit for his musical skills.

August 2004 - Geoffrey Makepeace hosts a Deed of Arms, to raise items and donations for our troops overseas. Warriors come from all over the north, and even one from out of Kingdom to do battle for this worthy cause.

September 2004 - Northkeep hosts the Queen's Champion event. Elizabeth de Calais is given an Iris for her great skill at cookery, and Ian Dun Gillian receives a Star of Merit from the hands of Drake and Sibri. Mooneschadowe Guardian - Wiggen is made a Centurian. Thorgrim Northkeep is recognized for his honor and integrity during the Guardian Defender tournament.

Fall 2004 - Diondair - Angus Gunn wins the Northkeep Dionadair tournament, and the Northkeep Ensign is taken by Johan. Namron Protectorate: Rayhanna el-Mukhite is recognized by their Majesties with an Award of Arms.

Winter 2004 - wInterKingdom: A wide variety of classes is held. A small court is held at the event's end, during which Lady Amanda Blackwolf receives a Crimson Star of Northkeep, as does Lady Nadine des Jardins. Lady Faolan McFarland received the Lions Paw of Kenmare. The event is autocratted by Lord Masamune, and the Feastocrat is Lady Amanda Blackwolf. Wiesenfeuer Yule - Aethelred is squired to Syr Owen Ap Aeddan during evening court. Northkeep's own Diarmaid O'Dunn was, in what appeared to be a completely sneaky surprise, elevated to the Order of the Laurel, and peers lined up to speak for this gentleman.

February 2005 - The Canton of Skargaard holds its Axeman II event. The heavy fighting tournament, done in a three round, axe only grand melee, is won by Northkeep's Randal Lee.

June 2005 - Castellan : The title of Baronial Castellan is won by Arthur Blackmoon. The Youth Castellan is claimed by Elenore, and Children's Castellan is Krys Blackwolf. Krys wins both Children's Obstacle Course and Children's Marksman. Connor wins the Children's Archery, and Bree Kiegansdattir wins Children's Bardic. Ron Slater creates both some clay snails and some redwork embroidery to win the Children's Arts & Sciences competition. For the youth, Elenor sweeps the Bardic, A&S and Archery. Kenrick takes the Knife-Axe-Spear competition, and Andrew of Northkeep wins Youth Rapier. For the adults, the title of Marksman is won by Thormund Blackwolf. The Baronial Archer is Geoffrey Makepeace, and Magdalena de Cadamosto of Mooneschadowe takes the A&S. Bardic is won by Bianca de la Vittoria of Wiesenfeuer. Lord Odawara Taro Yoshinobu wins the Drighton tournament. Owen ap Aeddan wins the meatgrinder tournament for the second year in a row. Facon duPray takes the rapier champion title of Provost. Much recognition is given to members of the populace at evening court. Awards of Arms are given to Geoffrey Makepeace, Cearl, Gisela von Grau, Ayla von Ashen & Asric of Mooneschadowe, Aderyn Gunnarsdottir, and Conal mac Eoghain. Northkeep's non-armigerous baronial service award, the Crimson Star, was given to Fintan O'Cuigg & Angus Gunn (both of whom have previously been awarded this honor.) Elizabeth de Calais, who was also named Apprentice to Mistress Stacia, was made a Companion to the Order of the Kenmare. Ottakar Luthor Von Holstein received a Sable Talon in the field of Knife, Axe and Spear (Thrown Weapons) – the first KAS Sable Talon to be presented in the North! Emma de Fetherstan of Mooneschadowe received a Star of Merit for all her hard work with respect to the Heraldic community. Johan von Brandenburg (von Aug?) - received a Sable Thistle for Period Rapier Combat Technique, and Esme Haddock McCallum received a Sable Comet from Rivers Run.

October 2005 - Northkeep's Incipiant Canton of Chemin Noir holds their premier event, Fair of the Harvest. Herr-Domr Damon Hroarsson received the axe of the Warden. Tadg macAedain uiConchobahair received the rapier blade of the Rangers, assembled and crafted by Randal Lee. Lady Sabine Lefevre d’Armagnac received the handsome Journal of the Inspectors, with which she could detail her project, and those of future Inspectors. Lady Aderyn Gunnarsdottir received a feathered, betokened walking stick, along with a pouch with the device of the Canton, in which she could keep the monies she earns entertaining as Troubador. Lord Ottokar Luthor von Holstein received a slim and deadly spear for his office of Sergeant. Karl Thorgeirsson accepted a leather quiver - as the Canton’s Huntsman. Children’s Events: Dragon Hunt, 8 and under: Elizabeth. Dragon Hunt, 9 and older: Damon of House Halfiras. Gentle Hunt, 8 and under: Elizabeth. Gentle Hunt, 9 and older: Nehemiah. Children’s Archery: Drake received a huge jack o lantern of candy – which had been one of the targets that day – and a special mention was made of Chyryne, who was dressed as Snow White, for her efforts in the archery shoot. She received a mirror, in which Arthur Blackmoon said he hoped she would always see her dreams.

March 2006 - Northkeep hosts a Northern Regional fighter practice, in preparation for War. The Liondragon Guard of Mooneschadowe is granted the King's Battle Ribbon at Gulf Wars, and promptly declares that it should be shared with their northern brethern of Northkeep's Border Guard. Riddari Balvin Thorfinnson acts as the General of the Northern Armies.

June 2006 - Ainar and Mercedes step down, and Ian and Kelandra become the Barony's third Baron and Baroness, giving their oath to Abd al-Mahdi Jamal ibn Hakim and Valeria Richela Navarra. Kinoshita Zenjirou Yoshimitsu is named Drighton of Northkeep. Many nobles from throughout the Northern region attend the event, and there are even visitors from outside the kingdom, including Hrothgar and Brianna, the Baron & Baroness of the Barony of Small Gray Bear of Gleann Abhann. 259 people go through gate.
