Persona History:

15c Ottoman, Turkey

Asiya lives in the Ottoman Turk empire in the 15th Century. She is the only child of the Chief scholar at the court of Mohammed II. She was raised in the palace were her parents resided. Her Mother died when she was 12, her father was in no rush to marry her because he like having her run his household and he was not inclined to marry again as he found having a wife took time away from his research. When he finally decided to marry her off, he choose his best friend who was the favorite scribe of Mohammed II. The two men shared a large suite in the palace and Asiya kept house for both of them.

He father educated her as he would have any son because he felt intelligence was a trait to be nurtured and developed no matter if it was housed in a man's or a woman's body. Although Asiya learned all the normal duties and skills of a woman she also learned things the princes were being taught. She developed a wide range of skills and interests because of this.

Asiya and her husband were blessed with one son. Although his father and grandfather tried to develop a scholarly interest in the young boy his passion was the military. Because of the family's favored status her son was allow training alongside the princes and entered the Sultan's army and showed great promise to become one of the empires raising military geniuses. During a battle in the Crimea, he was killed.

Shortly after this her husband was stricken with a wasting disease and died. This left Asiya and her father alone again. He father decided that unless Asiya choose to want to marry again he was content to let her continue living and caring for him.

Asiya had a full and busy life in the palace. Besides caring for her father, she had the pleasure of educating the princess. The sultan was thrilled to have her handle the education of his daughters so he was saved the problems of having male teachers for them. The Sultan found Asiya a unique and interesting woman with a quick wit and lively intelligence but still very comfortable with her place as a woman in this society.

When Asiya's father approached the Sultan with a proposition for Asiya's status once he was no longer living, the Sultan readily saw the benefit to him. The proposition was that Asiya would continue to live in the suite she shared with her father for the remainder of her life. She would be free of any pressure to marry again. She would inherit all of her father's and late husband's wealth. She would be independent and allow to spend her days as she saw fit. Upon her death all of her wealth would then be inherited by the Sultan. This was a win, win situation for the Sultan, he got the continued services of a tutor for the royal princesses that was beyond reproach and was a good role model for them to be strong, intelligent women who knew how to be happy in the world they lived in. He got to have an intelligent woman to give him a woman's point of view when he needed it that was in no way trying to vie for his attentions. In return he allows this slightly eccentric woman her freedom to continue as she always had to the end of her days. He also got the reward of the wealth of her estate when she finally joined Allah.

At this point in her life Asiya's father has also died and she is living her life with a unique freedom for women of her station and time.
