Ansteorra 40th Anniversary was held Thursday, September 18 - Sunday, September 22, and was hosted by the Province of Mooneschadowe.

Martial Activities

Chivalric

  • 40th Year Ruby Challenge: "This is a round robin tournament, open to the first 41 people who sign up. This means everyone has 40 fights. Each fight will be to one point and will last three minutes before the next fight starts. This will be a grueling challenge and everyone who enters and finished will receive a commemorative token. The winner of the tournament will be the fighter with the most points."
  • William Marshal Tournament: "This high persona tournament will be fought in the 12th Century style of melee honoring William Marshal. All participating combatants must conform to the weapon and Armour Standards of the tournament outlined below. The tournament will consist of three rounds of melee 15 minutes each with 5 minute break between to hydrate or settle ransoms. Teams will be chosen at the beginning of the tournament. We will attempt to make the sides even and fair as well as attempt to keep whole units together. Changing sides is permitted."
  • Newcomers Tournament: "For the fighters we want to make sure they are getting as much fighting in as we can. So we have decided to break the combatants into pools. Each combatant will fight every other person in their pool. After a few pools of various weapon styles, the highest scoring combatants will be placed into a bracketed tournament to choose the victor. Get ready, embrace versatility, and prepare for lots of fun!! "
  • Viking Raid: This event is Based on the Raids of the Norse King Harald Hardrada against the Danish King Sweyn II in the years around 1050. All gear and behavior for this Deed should be chronologically appropriate for the Scandinavians of the Viking Raid era, being portrayed from roughly the 9th to 11th Centuries. Fighters are not required to have a Viking appearance, but are strongly encouraged to do so. All warriors should bring a minimum of one piece of period appropriate loot to contribute towards the “treasure hoard.” Sides will be determined and each will present their loot to the MIC which will be distributed after the battle. The commanders will disperse the loot won to their warriors as they see fit. Bringing extra loot to be given directly to worthy opponents and assisting marshals, chirugeons, water-bears, etc.. is highly encouraged. Your loot is required for entry into the raid.
  • Known World Open: Bring Your Own Blam: This tourney is open to all chivalric fighters regardless of rank. Sitting Royals are most welcome. Here is the place to win some renown! The format will be bearpit then double elimination. All fighting will be bring your best weapon style. The fighters will be divided into groups of roughly equal numbers and skill levels. A point will be given for each victory a fighter has earned. The first 16 to earn 25 points will finish the tourney in standard double elimination. Fighters may hold the field indefinitely, however all wounds are retained as long as that fighter holds the field.
  • Crest Tournament: Bring a creative crest for your helmet for this tournament. The crest must be constructed from foam, paper mache or some other material that can be easily removed/destroyed by a solid shot from a One-Hand Heavy Weapon. It must be attached to the top of your fighting helm using a method that will allow easy removal such as Duct Tape, Strapping Tape, Velcro, etc. No metal rods or anything that will prevent a solid shot from removing the crest are allowed. Crest height is to be a minimum of 7 inches. Combat will consist of a single one-hand weapon per fighter, no shield or off-hand weapon, held in a grand melee. The last crest standing will be named the winner and a winner will also be named for "best" crest.
  • Pas dela Rouge: A grand Pas d'Armes open to all Armored and Cut & Thrust combatants that wish to participate! Bouts will be challenge style and announced in as grand a form as Combatants may manage. Use of heralds is highly encouraged. Likewise, Combatants and Consorts are encouraged to offer larges to any and all that they find worthy of praise by virtue of their actions. At the end of the Pas, we will gather to enjoy foods and refreshments, tell stories of valor and actions during the Pas and celebrate one Combatant from each combat form, Armoured Combat and Cut & Thrust, to be recognized as Most Valiant of the day.


Rapier

  • Rose Tournament: We, Roses of Ansteorra, are hosting a grand rapier tournament at Ansteorra's Fortieth Year Celebration! We look forward to seeing the honor, grace, and prowess of any who wish to compete. The tournament starts on Saturday September 21st, at 10 am, and lasts until 2 pm. Even though the tournament is being hosted by the Roses, Rose sponsorship is not required to participate.
  • League of Ansteorra Black Blade: The League of the Ansteorran Black Blade is a season long series of tournaments. Each tournament is a Single pass single elimination style tournament. the tournaments will be hosted by the league at various events around the kingdom throughout the year. Each tournament will have a "pool" of points. Each fighter that enters the league has a point value assigned to them based on the awards they have received. The point values of each fighter that enters a tournament will be added to the "pool" for said tournament. Each entrant will get a percentage of those points, Percentages increase the farther you go in the tournament with the winner getting the highest. The season will end before Gulf Wars 2020. The idea behind this league is to encourage both travel and, as always, MORE FIGHTING! Getting more people into tournaments benefits everyone so get your friends to join! We are also looking forward to everyone being able to utilize their fighting data to analyze their trends and progress throughout the year and even across several seasons. This tournament series can work either as a series motivating goals or as a bunch of fun one off tournaments, depending on how you choose to approach it so there is something there for everyone!

Equestrian

  • Amicitia Equestrian Challenge, hosted by Eowyth þa Siðend of Calontir: The Amicitia challenge is a relay race and the pair has to be made of a Calontir & Ansteorran rider, but Amicitias and Feras can fill in for either side. The challenges will be adjusted based on the equipment available and number of equines and riders. It could possibly be a head-to-head relay race or one team at a time.


Siege

  • Siege Timed Shoot (Thursday): There will be a prize for the winning team. Teams do not need to be siege authorized or wear armor. Kids can participate too!
  • Siege Rock Catch (Friday): Participants must be in armor and catch the rocks before they hit the ground. There will be a prize for the winner.
  • Siege Themed Shoot (Saturday): A large themed shoot with near and far targets, and multiple rounds. There will be a prize for the winning team. Teams do not need to be siege authorized or wear armor. Kids can participate too!


Thrown Weapons / Archery

  • KAS - Knives Tourney: Think you're handy with a knife? Come and throw with us in this knife heavy thrown weapons tourney. We will be throwing at multiple distances and at multiple targets with a few surprises thrown in for good measure. If you can make the cut you'll walk away with a full set of 12 inch throwing knives and bragging rights. Sign up will begin 30 minutes before the tourney starts.
  • KAS - Axe tourney: Always wanted to be an axe murderer? Well, we won't be practicing that here, but you can compete with the best in the kingdom in this axe-centric tourney! Single throw, double throw and long distance are some of the challenges that you can expect on the range. We won't axe you how much you've practiced but, should you cut out the competition you'll take home a full set of throwing axes to show off. Sign up will begin 30 minutes prior to the tourney start.
  • KAS - Spear tourney: The name of this game is to stick it with a spear. There will be hard and soft targets, a line throw and some good fun in killing your opponent in this spear throw. Bring your own or use the spears provided and see if you can win a full set of spears and be the envy of your peer group. This throw will be a lot of fun and so stick around and see if you can come out on top! Sign up will begin 30 minutes prior to the tourney start.
  • KAS - 40th Year Champion Throw: This throw will bring it all together with knives, axes and spears in a multi-round, multi-throw tourney. There will be hard and soft targets, multiple distances and multiple styles along with some unique challenges such as the "no stick zone" targets. This tourney is designed to bring out your best and, should you prove worthy, will garner you a full set of knives, axes and spears for your collection. That's right, you can win it all, if you can make it stick. Sign up will begin 30 minutes before the tourney starts.
