December 12, 2021

The last twenty-four hours have been amazing and we are still trying to come to grips with the outpouring of love and generosity from the fabulous people of Vindheim. We are looking forward to the next six months and hope you are as well. We will see everyone at the Weisenfeuer Yule Revel this coming weekend! Stay warm and travel safe!

Princess' Blade at Wiesenfeuer Yule

"I was making gingerbread stars for the Princess' Tea at Wiesenfeuer Yule, and it occurred to me-- the people of Vindheim are like the stars of a constellation. Everyone has their place-- in a good, belonging kind of way-- and being able to look out at the people and see the familiar faces is as reassuring as being able to look up into a familiar night sky. At the same time, the people of Vindheim themselves are each like their own individual constellations. Each person is different, and is made up of their own special mix of interests, pursuits, and prowess, and that makes us each unique. But the things we pursue and spend our energy on cultivating--- when I see those patterns in those around me, it's like recognizing the stars of a familiar constellation. It was good to see everyone yesterday. Thank you for sharing the day with us. Thank you for being the stars in my sky." -D

Whispers on the Wind: Premier Issue

Greetings to the Populace of Vindheim!

We could not be more excited to begin a new year with this new principality! There are great opportunities and events scheduled, both close to home and beyond our borders. We are asking the populace to be a visible presence with their travel, and be ambassadors to the rest of Ansteorra, Calontir, and beyond.

Winter War Maneuvers is an exciting opportunity to visit with our good friends to the north. Gulf Wars will allow us to display our Vindheim pride to the Knowne World. Spring Coronation will allow us to support the Heirs of Ansteorra as they assume the thrones and work with us to further develop our future.

We highly encourage any populace who is attending Gulf Wars to pre-register. If you are fighting, Elfsea is hosting Sable Legionnaire on Saturday, January 29th, and the Steppes is hosting Sable Soldier on Sunday, January 30th. Winter War Maneuvers is in Calontir on Saturday, February 19th. All are good opportunities to get some extra war practice in, depending on your preferred combat style.

Our own progress is listed on the Ansteorran event calendar. We look forward to seeing everyone out and about, and talking to you about what you see for the future of the Principality and the directions people envision different elements might take.

Continue to be safe. Stay well. Be kind to each other. We look forward to our time together.

In Service,
Romanius and Deanna

Whispers on the Wind: February Issue

Greetings to the People of Vindheim!

Gulf Wars is nigh! We hope to see everyone in our fair Principality at Gulf Wars and know we'll have a fantastic time supporting the Kingdom at War. With fighters of all types, our talented artisans, and those who give so much of their time in service to make the War run well, the Principality will show the Known World what we can do. For those for whom this is their first Gulf Wars, and for the rest of us who haven't been in a few years, be sure to bring clothing for all types of weather. Remember to stay hydrated. Enjoy your shopping. And be certain to share your enthusiasm and goodwill with all you meet.

Travel safely,
Romanius and Deanna

February 28, 2022: Provincial Games

Greetings to the Principality of Vindheim!

This past weekend, the Province of Mooneschadowe hosted Provincial Games and a fantastic time was had by all. It was just amazing to see people in person, to talk to everyone and to simply have an event. Each and every one of you make Ansteorra a special place and I am so glad to be able to share your moments and days with you!

Numerous special things happened at Provincial Games. Special congratulations to Vindheim's own Duchess Margherita for her elevation to the Order of the Pelican, a well-deserved recognition of many years of service and dedication.

The Principality's first chivalric champion was selected via a grand melee of teams, with the captain of the prevailing team becoming the champion. I would like to congratulate HL Charles the Grey and his victorious team that carried the day, and I am very proud to have him as my champion.

This last weekend Lady Isabeau Wynter was chosen as Baker to the Coronet due to her fantastic culinary skills. We are excited to highlight the skills and abilities of the people of Vindheim.

While the Summer Coronet Tourney is not scheduled until June 18, 2022, the format was announced so that all who anticipate participating have time to hone their skills. The tourney will be in two parts. The first part being a Swiss Five with the weapon styles of great axe, glaive, six foot spear, great sword and counted blows at the barrier with a single handed weapon. The eight fighters with the best record will advance to the second part, which will be a best two of three fighter’s choice of weapon. If more than eight fighters have scores that qualify being in the second phase, the fighters with the lowest record will fight single elimination bouts with weapons of my choice until only eight fighters remain.

Our successors' chivalric and rapier champions will have their respective competitions as part of Coronet Tournament weekend. If you wish to compete for the honor of being the next to lead Vindheim, you will be required to submit your champions' tournament formats as part of the Letter of Intent. If you wish to compete for the honor of serving as Champion to the future Coronet, be ready to compete soon after the end of the Coronet list.

Gulf Wars will be upon us in only two weeks' time! We look forward to seeing you there, speaking to you, and hearing about your special moments at War. Please travel safely!

March 22, 2022: Gulf Wars

Greetings to the fantastic populace of Vindheim!

The Principality's chivalric and rapier fighters, our artisans and those who provided indispensable service overcame all enemies and returned home. We have returned from War and returned VICTORIOUS! Our fair Principality fielded over half of all fighters and participants from Ansteorra for the War. This victory is yours!

It was marvelous to see all those who attended Gulf and our thoughts were with those who could not make the journey and we missed each and every one of you. It was wonderful to speak with so many of you and to hear your war stories about what made your war special. Please continue to let us know what your special moment was at war or, if you were not able to attend, what you did to tend the home fires in Vindheim! We would like to give a special shout out to those who gave of their time and talents to provide gifts to Their Serene Highnesses of Oertha. They were speechless when looking at the skill of Vindheim and said they were going to share these items with their own artisans to spread the word fame and names of our artists. Her Serene Highness Deanna and I are deeply indebted to each of you that assisted us in this project. Thank you.

Finally, we look forward to the next few months, where we will have the opportunity to visit many groups and see the great people of Vindheim. We have some exciting things coming in the near future to recognize the work and talents of Vindheim and we cannot wait to share them with all of you.

In Service to Vindheim and Ansteorra,
Romanius
Prince

April 12, 2022: Coronet Tourney

Greetings Vindheim!
It is with excitement and a little sadness that the summer coronet tourney comes into view! Her Highness Deanna and I know that this event will be full of pageantry and good times as our successors are chosen. Deanna and I are asking each and every fighter in the Principality who has the ability to fight and carry the burden of the Coronet, to please enter and participate in the day. We believe that the diversity of our populace is our strength and we ask for that strength to help us continue to forge and temper the Principality going forward.
As was previously stated the format of the tourney is as follows:
The tourney will be in two parts. The first part being a Swiss Five with the weapon styles of great axe, glaive, six foot spear, great sword and counted blows at the barrier with a single handed weapon. The eight fighters with the best record will advance to the second part, which will be a best two of three fighter’s choice of weapon. If more than eight fighters have scores that qualify being in the second phase, the fighters with the lowest record will fight single elimination bouts with weapons of my choice until only eight fighters remain.
Each participant will need to submit a letter of intent, confirming themselves, their consort, and their plans of how they would like their chivalric champion's tourney to be run. The chivalric champion's tourney will be held directly following the Coronet tourney. Letters of intent must be emailed to the prince and princess email addresses as well as the principality seneschal. All letters of intent must be received by us no later that midnight June 11, 2022. Please remember to arrange for an Officer of the Principality to speak for you at the tourney!
We look forward to everyone who is able to participate to please do so, and the selection of our successors.

April 17, 2022: Creation of the first Principality Orders

We had the privilege of introducing three new principality recognitions at Wiesenfeuer Baronial this weekend. They're still working their way through the system, so only promissories were awarded--- but we look forward to new opportunities for thanking people who make everyone around them better in a variety of ways.

Likewise, while doing our research, there are two different types of recognitions. An award can be given multiple times. For an Order, you receive it once. All of these are non-armigerous Orders. The Order of the Silver Fountain. These people are recognized for using performance art to serve the people around them. Whether they're musicians who lend to the ambiance, or singers, or bards, or heralds who are crying site/announcing pairings/introducing a procession/making court happen--- these are the people whose public performances make our day better. Much love to Owen ap Aeddan for being the premiere member of this order.

The Order of the Wellspring. Just as performance arts tend to be very public, there are artists who use art in a far more private way in order to benefit everyone around them. These are the people we rely on to be an endless source of all-the-things in terms of artistry. Whether they're the scribal teams who spend hundreds of hours making sure we have amazing scrolls to commemorate events, or whether they're the woodworkers who build things, or the bannermakers, or the jewelers and metalsmiths, or the people who generously open their homes and lend their skill to make sure everyone is well-dressed, or the armorers whose workshops are always open--- these are the people who serve via their art. Much love to Zubeydah Al-Badawiyyah for being the premiere member of this order.

The Order of the Crimson Bowl. This order is our friendship award, recognizing those who do not currently reside within our zip codes, but whose love, dedication, and service make them truly one of us in spirit. This recognizes the depth of that service, extending the bowl of friendship and inviting them to be part of our Vindheim family. It comes with certain privileges connected to it--- giving them the right to have their voices heard when the Vindheim populace is polled on their opinions, as well as allowing them the right to compete for ceremonial championships. Because it comes with some very special privileges, this one is restricted to a maximum of two new members per Coronet reign. Much love to Asoph Hearts and Michelle Chantal de Charente for being the premiere members of this order.

After they're formally accepted into Principality law, we look forward to working with all the smart people who keep the website running, to make it easy for the people of Vindheim to bring generous, talented people to the Coronet's attention, so they can say thank you for making us better because you're here.

And-- as a reminder-- everyone in Vindheim is still most definitely eligible for Kingdom-level awards, so make sure you look up your friends in the OP, and give TRM's the opportunity to recognize their amazingness as well!

May 2, 2022

Beltane holds a special place in the memories of so many people. Thank you for sharing your Beltane with us, and allowing us to make new memories with you this year.

I'd like to send warm congratulations to the newest additions to the Order of the Wellspring of Vindheim. Their art-as-service is not limited to the creation of impressive regalia for the Principality, but the regalia does serve as very high-profile projects that are just one example of the sort of artistry they are known for, plus an example of their ability to collaborate as a team on a complicated endeavour. Thank you for your service in the creation of such amazing objects that speak to the skill and prowess of the artisans and craftsmen of our Principality. Normally, I would list people individually, but since not everyone was present who we had hoped to recognize, I'll let the photos do the talking for now!

We had the privilege of introducing three new non-armigerous Principality recognitions at Beltane court.

The first was the Award of the Crimson Firebolt. (For those keeping track at home, our elemental theme for martial awards is fire.) So often, when members of the populace are recognized for their accomplishments, it is a matter of, "Word has reached us that..." or "We have been told..." For the Crimson Firebolt, this is an award commemorative of a martial event of excellence that the Coronet has personally witnessed. "Earlier today, I saw..." It might be an individual performing at a level that is beyond their actual skill. It might be a mighty deed that changed the course of events. It might be an amazing moment at War. Whatever it is--- it's unexpected and unpredictable and sudden, like a bolt of lightning out of the sky, but is worthy of being honored and recognized. We don't know if the giant hammer in the Celtic Games was the regulation 22 lbs or not... but when Sævarr Máni threw the Scottish Hammer 68 feet, 10 inches... and the next-furthest throw was an also-impressive 43 feet... we thought his mighty feat was most deserving of a Crimson Firebolt.

The second is the Order of the Bastion of Vindheim. (Stone/earth = Service!) As you know, a bastion is a part of a fortification that helps strengthen a defensive wall. The members of the Order are pillars of Vindheim. If they were to be absent, the Principality would be left with a huge void. The Coronet may appoint no more than one member per reign. Membership in the Order comes with a task: to continue to work together for the betterment of the Principality. Their grass roots involvement and experience allows them to give informed counsel to the Coronet. The continuity of their presence and efforts helps keep the Principality healthy at the local level. Thank you, Charles the Grey, for being our premiere member. You have spent an incalculable amount of time and energy in helping the Northern Region evolve into the Principality of Vindheim. Thank you for being you.

For the third-- the Principality needed something for the Youth, and yet we wanted it to be unique from the Kingdom-level awards they already were eligible for. Thank you very much to everyone whose good counsel helped develop the Order of the Golden Comb of Vindheim. (For the theming, the populace had requested bee imagery.) If you know about bees, you understand that a honey bee's lifespan is only a month or two. When bees are collecting nectar in the spring, it's for the benefit of future generations of bees that don't yet exist, and they will never see. With a youth order, we wanted to evoke that feeling of the passage of time. The youth of Vindheim who excel as minors, even despite the limitations of their age and circumstances--- we expect them to continue to excel as they grow into their majority. With an order, you are admitted once... but even though only youth are admitted, you never age out. It is fully our expectation that, someday, during court, when the newest member is welcomed into the Order, everyone will be able to look around and realize that amongst the Knights and the MODs, the Laurels and the Pelicans, the Landeds and perhaps even the Crown or the Coronet at the time... that amongst their ranks are so many members of the Order of the Golden Comb of Vindheim welcoming a new youth with the promise of the future into their midst. I'd like to welcome Brendan and Patrick Isaacson as the premiere members of the Order.

All of these are working their way through the system. We look forward to getting them finalized and official, so they may be entered into the Award Recommendation system in the future. As always, everyone in Vindheim remains eligible for Kingdom-level awards. Please look up the people you know in the OP and see what is missing or overdue! Then recommend them to Their Majesties' attention so that they may have the honor and privilege of acknowledging the accomplishments of the people we all know and love.

June 4, 2022

Dear Vindheim,
We look forward to introducing our final two awards at court at Coronet Tournament. Both of these are thank-you's that recognize the generosity of those who personally support the Coronet as entourage. We would be lost without the selfless support and love of those who make the magic happen.

The first is the Award of the Clavis of Vindheim. Clavis is Latin for key, and the key represents the trust and confidence of the Coronet. Each Coronet gifts their own key, somehow unique/identifiable to them as a token of gratitude, and the recipient carries the key in the future as a visible sign of the gratitude of that particular Coronet for their service and support. These are the people who take an entourage shift at an event, attend the Coronet, help with set-up and tear-down, and otherwise take time out of their event to personally help the Coronet with all the practicalities of the day.

The second is the Award of the Clavis Clavium of Vindheim. This is Latin for "key of keys", and the holders of these also carry the token of a key that is somehow unique/identifiable to each Coronet. These keys are to be somehow fancier or more elaborate than the Clavis keys from the same reign. The Clavis Clavium are tokens of gratitude from the Coronet to their core entourage-- the ones who spent countless hours behind-the-scenes, the ones who went above and beyond, the entourage whose counsel, moral support, discretion, energy, and extensive personal service were critical to the success of that particular Coronet.

I apologize ahead of time to all the future Coronets who discover, as we did, that we have chosen some very difficult tokens of gratitude to be attached to this award! But I will also admit that, after we discovered that it was not as easy a thing as we expected it to be, we kept it that way on purpose despite the difficulty. The Coronet will have to put a good deal of forethought into their keys. They will have to put a good deal of energy into finding a way to customize them to themselves. And the biggest thing--- over the course of the next many years, as Coronets come and go, it was important to us that the Populace of Vindheim will be able to see, at a glance, those whose sacrifice and generous spirits have sustained the Principality in the background. I want everyone to be able to see, just by looking at someone's key-ring casually suspended from a belt or tied to a basket handle, just how many Coronets were indebted to the efforts of that individual who aided them.

(And, for those keeping track at home, keys are made of metal, and metal comes from the earth, and earth was our element for Service to the Coronet and Principality.)

Thank you, Vindheim, for everything you have done to support us during our time. You have our gratitude.

June 17, 2022

Dear Vindheim,
As you may have heard, I have had Covid all week. It was my strongest hope that my illness would work itself through quickly so that I could be fever-free and have a negative test--- but as of last night, that was not the case.
The very capable Officers have already reached out to Society to explain the situation, and Society was gracious enough to grant me a variance that excuses me from my final obligations that would normally be mandatory. Romanius, however, is still in good health and will fulfill the last of the requirements. So, we're very happy that Coronet Tournament will be allowed to continue as scheduled despite my absence, that our Territorial reign is deemed valid, that our station as Premier Prince and Princess is not in dispute, and that Society acknowledges the successful completion of our reign and our Viscounties.
That takes care of the legal obligations to Society. However, I am regretful that I am unable to take care of the social obligations to Vindheim.
You have been amazing. I have been honored and humbled by your love and support. Thank you for working together and exploring this path, which has been under development for so long, as we strive to bring the amorphous idea of "The Principality" into the solid reality of what "Vindheim" is.
It is not something that will ever manifest itself, whole and complete. It is something living that grows and evolves and develops with the people who allow it to exist. It will be guided by many, many, many capable people, and each will bring their own unique stamp, perspectives, and efforts to its cultivation and development.
I look forward to continuing to stand alongside with you and working together.
Thank you for your love and support.
Vindheim has mine.
You are still the stars in my sky.
All my love,
-Deanna

The Words of the Populace

Marcus von Furth

(December 18, 2021) What a wonderful weekend! I'm honored and humbled to be Vindheim's premier rapier champion. Now that I've had some time to relax and gather my thoughts, I'd like to thank/recognize a few people who made the day special: Lord Saevarr - for giving me such a wonderful fight in the finals. Don Cornelius Meriläinen for making it in the top three, and Master Orlando Giovanni for being our deadly bye. All were challenging and kept me on my feet. A HUGE thank you to Lyra for serving as our Marshall in charge and a big thanks to our two lovely list mistresses Dominique Michelle le Vasseur and Caterina Giovanni di Gilead. Thank you to Lady Ashildr inn Harfagri for arranging the live feed and to all the other goblins who pitched in and made the day so enjoyable! Thank you to Duchess Margherita de Mantua for setting up and running the Vindheim Princess' Tea. Thank you to Wiesenfeuer and Their Excellencies for hosting the Princess' Blade tournament. Finally, my biggest thank you goes to Her Highness, Deanna, for gifting us the inspiration and grace for Her tournament.

Isabeau Wynter

Greetings!
I wanted to beg a moment of everyone’s time to say what an honor it has been to serve as the premier baker to the coronet. Most importantly I wanted to thank Count Romanius and Countess Deanna for both creating that distinction and graciously bestowing it on me. Therefore, I would like to rename and dedicate two recipes in their honor: The Prince’s Chocolate Cookies and the Princess’s Amaretti Cookies. The chocolate cookies because Romanius mentioned them as a favorite and the Amaretti because they seemed to be a favorite among the people and they are gluten free, therefore representing both their Excellencies' favorites as well as their gracious inclusiveness to all within the principality. As Prince and Princess you showed me such kindness and insisted that a baker walk among you in your procession. It was the highest of honors and any time I bake these items, they will bear a mark of that gratitude. It is my hope that future bakers to the coronet might also dedicate recipes to the crown therefore starting a tradition for the position and building up a number of recipes that I'm sure will outshine these.
Lastly, I would like to also dedicate my Praline King Cake to the principality. From now on, it shall be the Principality of Vindheim Praline Cake.
