I am Kyna Ithrokona, Pelican of the Society, and I am here today to speak of Thomas Barnhardt. 
 
Many know of Thomas through the fighting field, vying for a championship, or fighting a newcomer at practice. I don’t. 
 
I know this man from his service. 
 
I have known this man for his entire SCA career, from his very first event, and during that time I have seen every side of him. I have seen him mad, yelling out at something unknown to others, and I have seen him overjoyed with tears in his eyes. Through everything though, I have seen him serve. 
 
I have seen this man drenched from the Ansteorra rains, carrying heavy loads, so others didn’t have to. I have seen him set up tents of those he didn’t know, making sure others were helped before himself. I have seen him work under the Ansteorran sun asking what else he can do. 
 
He’s taught, mended, built, dug, cooked, hauled, fetched, sorted, sewn, washed. 
 
His service has been blameless, tireless, and often thankless — though not today. 
 
Today, he is recognized for where his heart lies, as a Knight of the Society. 
 
One thing many may not know, is that Thomas and I are secret best friends. And while that wont change any time soon, I am now honored to call him my Peer. ( I will also say, your majesties, I am MOST looking forward to the unanswered blow. 😊 )
