==General Information==
The Free Company of the Golden Wheat is a Household of mercenary fighters and service minded folk that work and fight to build a better dream, and have fun doing it. 
The Free Company "Sells" their services to groups that are within or allied to Ansteorra. The Free Company is known for taking payments that further their passion for shenanigans, or contribute to the growth of their community or culture.

The Free Company is also easily identified by tunics of black with a burgundy, black and gold trim with wheat stalks. Each fighter's garb is tailored to their personality and persona, encouraging individuality but unity. 
 

==Founding==
The Free Company was informally organized in 2020, and structured in 2021. 
The founding members include Alondra Martel, [[Wulfgard Martel]], [[Oswald Martel]], [[D'mitrii Zinonovich]], [[Iziaslava Veronikeia Myshkovicha]], [[Ulfr]], [[Penelope Martel]], [[Runa Bjarki]], [[Micauley Morison]], and [[Arthur Martel]]. 
 

==Press Gang==
To be Press Ganged is a manner of joining the Free Company. These members are considered by the Free Company to be a full member of the Free Company but the individual may or may not function as a member or claim to be a part of the group themselves. 
During the founding of the Free Company there were two individuals who had been involuntarily Press Ganged into the group: [[Set Sette]] and [[Charles the Grey of Mooneschadowe]]. 
This method of joining is little used but noteworthy when utilized.
 

==Joining==
At a 2022 AllThing, it was established that the method of joining the Free Company will be as follows: 
*Fight with the Free Company in a Melee
*Ask to join the Free Company
*After you ask, any member of the Free Company has the chance to anonymously Veto
*If Veto'd, repeat these steps
 
It has since been clarified that "Fight with the Free Company" shall be broadened to include activities that befit the F.C. as a whole, such as contributing to camp, assisting with projects, and caring for members in need. 
It has since been clarified that the Veto process shall be given and beginning and end date, to be made available to members to provide their Vetoes in a public or private forum, and that prospects who have received Vetoes will be given a basic explanation of "Why" and can Ask to Join at another time 

==Mercenaries==
The Free Company was originally built around a Mercenary fighting unit, to be purchased to fight for any individual or group and was given these 2 stipulations: 
*The Free Company always fights on behalf of the Kingdom of Ansteorra 
*The Free Company provides the current royalty of [[Vindheim]] the first rights to make a bid 

The Free Company currently exists as a Mercenary Household with a focus on their melee fighting units for Rapier and Rattan combat, and on the services the Household can provide to benefit groups or individuals. 
The Free Company can be purchased by any group or individual for these purposes, by communicating with the Commandant and reaching an "Payment" agreement 
Historically, The Free Company favors "Payment" in the form of Shenanigans, or elements that allow them to grow their collective culture 
Examples: 
*In 2023 The Free Company agreed to fight on behalf of The Principality of Vindheim in exchange for Quesadillas to be delivered during Ansteorran court at Gulf Wars 
*In 2024 The Free Company agreed to fight for the Barony of Bryn Gwlad in exchange for banners depicting their heraldic elements made by Baron [[Orazio d'Assisi]]

Commandant is the Free Company chivalric/rattan field commander as well as the person responsible for negotiating services and "Payment" 
This position unofficially includes other responsibilities such as; armoring new members of the Free Company, keeping members from making decisions that would make them unable to take the field, rallying members to assist in service agreements, teaching and training melee tactics, conducting Allthings 
Rapier Commandant is the Free Company rapier/steel field commander as well as being involved in negotiating "payment" for the rapier fighting unit 
This position unofficially includes other responsibilities such as; Preparing new rapiers to be able to fight on the field, assisting fighters interesting "crossing over", Providing quarters for cadet shenanigans 
Quartermaster is a role that is responsible for the general organization, communication, and "Cat herding" of the Free Company when traveling or camping together. 
This position unofficially includes other responsibilities such as; Taking and posting meeting minutes after Allthing gatherings, Basic record keeping of Free Company property, advising the Commandant and Rapier Commandant during their negotiations. 
The Commandant and Rapier Commandant are chosen each year at War of the Rams via a vote during an Allthing. Prospects must be proposed by someone other than themselves, and Prospects must consent to being considered for the role. Anyone present at the meeting may vote, as well as any Free Company member who is not present, after a Commandant and Rapier Commandant are agreed upon they will serve in this role until the next War of the Rams 
The Quartermaster is chosen after the previous Quartermaster has stepped down from the role. Prospects will be proposed in the same manner as the Commandants, and serve until they no longer wish to hold the role

==Gatherings==
AllThing is a gathering that serves as the "Business meeting" of the Free Company. Anyone may attend an Allthing, non-members only need to show up and their discussion and vote will be considered equal to Free Company members. It is a highly democratic structure in which the Commandant traditionally dictates discussion and various subjects of business are proposed by those present, discussed, and voted upon. 
Examples of discussion items: 
*To establish new Free Company Roles or practices 
*To build or purchase Free Company property 
*To agree to services that the Commandant is negotiating 
 
Valhotdog is another form of Free Company gathering, focused around a day of fighting, food, and telling stories. Valhotdog's often serve as an open social gathering and may include other elements such as sewing or project days, organization and transport of items to War, or planning complicated or thorough shenanigans. These gatherings are typically capped off with food, including the traditional serving of chili and hotdogs. Like with the AllThing, anyone may attend a Valhotdog.

The Free Company of the Golden Wheat is a Household of mercenary fighters and service minded folk that work and fight to build a better dream, and have fun doing it. 
The Free Company "Sells" their services to groups that are within or allied to Ansteorra. The Free Company is known for taking payments that further their passion for shenanigans, or contribute to the growth of their community or culture.

==Press Gang==
To be Press Ganged is a manner of joining the Free Company. These members are considered by the Free Company to be a full member of the Free Company but the individual may or may not function as a member or claim to be a part of the group themselves. 
During the founding of the Free Company there were two individuals who had been involuntarily Press Ganged into the group: [[Set Sette]] and [[Charles the Grey of Mooneschadowe]]. 
This method of joining is little used but noteworthy when utilized.

At a 2022 AllThing, it was established that the method of joining the Free Company will be as follows:

The Free Company was originally built around a Mercenary fighting unit, to be purchased to fight for any individual or group and was given these 2 stipulations:

*The Free Company provides the current royalty of [[Vindheim]] the first rights to make a bid 

The Free Company currently exists as a Mercenary Household with a focus on their melee fighting units for Rapier and Rattan combat, and on the services the Household can provide to benefit groups or individuals. 
The Free Company can be purchased by any group or individual for these purposes, by communicating with the Commandant and reaching an "Payment" agreement 
Historically, The Free Company favors "Payment" in the form of Shenanigans, or elements that allow them to grow their collective culture

Prospects must be proposed by someone other than themselves, and Prospects must consent to being considered for the role. Anyone present at the meeting may vote, as well as any Free Company member who is not present, after a Commandant and Rapier Commandant are agreed upon they will serve in this role until the next War of the Rams 
The Quartermaster is chosen after the previous Quartermaster has stepped down from the role. Prospects will be proposed in the same manner as the Commandants, and serve until they no longer wish to hold the role

==Gatherings==
AllThing is a gathering that serves as the "Business meeting" of the Free Company. Anyone may attend an Allthing, non-members only need to show up and their discussion and vote will be considered equal to Free Company members. It is a highly democratic structure in which the Commandant traditionally dictates discussion and various subjects of business are proposed by those present, discussed, and voted upon. 
Examples of discussion items: 
*To establish new Free Company Roles or practices 
*To build or purchase Free Company property 
*To agree to services that the Commandant is negotiating 
 
Valhotdog is another form of Free Company gathering, focused around a day of fighting, food, and telling stories. Valhotdog's often serve as an open social gathering and may include other elements such as sewing or project days, organization and transport of items to War, or planning complicated or thorough shenanigans. These gatherings are typically capped off with food, including the traditional serving of chili and hotdogs. Like with the AllThing, anyone may attend a Valhotdog.

At twice a year, they come together to host an AllThing, at which All The Things happen. They vote on Commandant, new rules, and any other business that needs doing. Anyone may attend the AllThing, and if you show up, your opinion will matter. 
 
Valhotdog is another form of Free Company gathering, focused around a day of fighting, food, and telling stories. Valhotdog's often serve as an unofficial regional practice. Like with the AllThing, anyone may attend a Valhotdog.

The Free Company of the Golden Wheat is a Household of mercenary fighters and service minded folk that work and fight to build a better dream, and have fun doing it.

The Free Company currently exists as a Mercenary Household with a focus on their melee fighting units for Rapier and Rattan combat, and on the services the Household can provide to benefit groups or individuals. 
The Free Company can be purchased by any group or individual for these purposes, by communicating with the Commandant and reaching an "Payment" agreement 
Historically, The Free Company favors "Payment" in the form of Shenanigans, or elements that allow them to grow their collective culture

====Fighting in the [[Vindheim Premier Coronet Tourney]] (December 13, 2021)====
I wanted to take a second to talk about one of the most important moments for me, one that will likely stick with me forever. 
Just before the finals, I had seen Count (now his Highness) Romanius knelt on the ground in the field. 
I approached him and asked, as I regularly ask my fighter friends and opponents, "Hey brother, are you feeling good?" 
He responded was (this is an approximation, I hope he'll forgive me) "Yes, feeling good, maybe a bit old, but good. How are you feeling?" 
I tend to be overly honest, especially about my feelings so I simply told him the truth, "I'm nervous, which I think makes sense, but yeah I'm just trying to kill some of these butterflies right now." 
And Romanius nodded and said "Well, I want you to know that you would have my support. If you were to win, me and Deanna would help you however we could and we think you would do an excellent job." 
There are so many ways that a man could have reacted to me admitting my nerves. Everything from no response at all to making sure I knew I -should- be nervous, to much worse things. But right before we competed to determine who would be the first Prince of [[Vindheim]], Romanius made sure to speak kindly, offer me confidence, and be a friend. 
That is, to me, exactly the kind of knight and leader I strive to be one day. And makes me incredibly proud to look to him as my Prince. 
There is so so much to talk about from Saturday, but I wanted to share this moment and what it meant to me and how proud I am that this is the leadership we have in [[Vindheim]] and the sort of peer that we have in our Kingdom.
 

====Gulf Wars 30, March 2022====
On the way home from Gulf Wars XXX. 
This year had some exceptional moments and adventures, some great stories to tell: 
-Entered the Diamond Tournament with Diego and won 
-Represented [[Margherita de Mantua]] in the Meridian Rose tournament 
-Got selected for and won in my fight during the Champions Tournament 
-Got to crush our foes with the Free Company across several battles 
-Watched my lovely feral child make money hand over fist by selling rocks 
-Gained 4 new Centurion brothers 
-Helped row a party boat all across the Gulf 
-Got to enjoy being a degenerate in the back of Ansteorran great court 
-Engaged in -heated- debate with representatives from across the known world about white versus yellow queso 
-Met a guy that -*knows Jack Mongo*- 
And just... so much more. 
Gulf Wars is home. It's a family reunion and an adventure and a marathon all blended together and my soul has needed this fuel. 
Vivat Gulf Wars. 
 

====May 27 - 29, 2022: Warlord + Valor! ====

This weekend was absolutely bonkers! 
I finally landed at home and needed to write out the adventures to help and process all of it. 
 
First and foremost, I've got to talk about Alyss. She volunteered at the last minute for my mad man scheme to hit Warlord and Valor in the same weekend despite this being her first SCA event - ever- . She handled all the craziness, driving, storytelling, being hurled into our culture, and so much more and I am deeply impressed. I hope plenty of you got to meet her, she's fantastic and I think she's finally sold on joining this insane hobby. 
 
Thank you [[Margery Heron]] for putting up with my presence, giving us a roof for the night, tolerating and even assisting while I pulled more people in to the Cult of Jack Mongo. You continue to be the best. 
 
Warlord was awesome this year. There's nothing quite like the rush of walking into that facility and bouncing from friend to friend giving hugs and hellos to people that you haven't seen in months. 
And the fighting! Oh man, I love fighting that tournament. I learned some things: 
- Always double check your helmet padding 
- Maybe sit down for a few minutes after get injured 
- [[Floki Gierrekkson|Floki]]'s helmet is gorgeous but my head is definitely bigger (Thank you again) 
- [[John Drake]] learns insanely fast and you should not show him any of your dumb tricks more than once 
 
Between teaching what I could, taking some new fighting advice to heart, having a ton of fun with my brothers and sisters in armor, and taking a great many opportunities to make Jason shake his head at me, the Warlord tournament was a blast. 
 
And court... While Loooooooong... Was worth every minute. 
Their Excellences [[Baudoyn de Lafayette|Bao]] and [[Katerine la Roux d'Anjou|Katerine]] let me pass out court snacks, because they're geniuses and provided ice cream to the populace that they - clearly- love. 
I got to drag Alyss up in front of the crowd as it was her first event, and the terror on her face was peak. 
I got to field questions about Floki's very blue and carefully shaped codpiece. 
and 
Getting to see those elevations, and how passionate everyone was about those candidates will stick with me for years. I have the great fortune of knowing all three of the people elevated, and knowing how much they truly deserved to become the peers they now are. Those people, and the words spoken about them are no small part of what makes this game magical. 
 
After court and some small car trouble (nothing that couldn't be fixed with a ratchet strap, and a Margery to shove 2 Centurions and a Duke out of the way and actually tie it down) me and Alyss hopped on the road and cruised from DFW to Wichita, KS. 
 
We landed at 6am, had enough time for a hint of a nap, and woke up to the announcement that the Valor tournament list was closing. 
Fortunately the List mistresses took pity on my exhausted husk and let me sign in late. 
 
The Valor tournament is one of my favorite tournaments in this game. I love B- sword, but more than that the people of Vatavia - love- watching the show. Every match seems like a WWE spectacle from the audience and we all want to see who's coming up next. - And- I got to fight 2 tournaments, thanks to the kindness of Sir Geoffrey who allowed to enter the Guardian Tournament in his stead. I got some amazing fights, some good moments and bad ones but just being part of the show, getting to talk and joke with friends throughout, it was well worth the drive. 
 
Also:
- HSH Romanius' passion for building the relationship between Ansteorra, Vindheim, and Calontir is fantastic to see. When your Prince asks people to join him in the North you go, and I am thrilled to see that brotherhood between kingdoms. 
- Mooneschadowe makes some rockin' tacos 
- The bag says "Eat Mini Oreos!" not "Eat Many Oreos!" and that's an important difference 
- Demitri has excellent choice in ciders, and in friends and I am happy to be counted among them 
- Daitan is heckin' good at hitting people with a 3- foot B- sword 
 
I finished out the weekend by hitting the Karaoke bar with Alyssa, bacon and breakfast tacos with the Schadowe, grabbing a tent (that definitely wasn't mine, not even a little *cough*) from the Valor site, and hitting the road with Demitri back to T- town. 
We made a few pit stops, told a trillion stories, talked to Alyss about the SCA, fiber arts, and the importance of picking a name before one gets picked for you, and now I'm safely back at home trying to soak it all in. There are so many other things but I've already written a novel lol. 
 
My life motto is Do Stuff, Tell Stories, and this weekend was one for the books. I hope everyone's was this good <3

The Free Company is a mercenary fighting unit and the collection of individuals that contribute to and support that unit and their shared culture.
Puns, Shenanigans, and a rejection of what is "Shiny" are cornerstones of their community.
 
==Device/Badge==
* Badge: Per pale gules and Or, two raccoons rampant guardant, addorsed counterchanged between a chief embattled and in saltire a hoe and a stalk of wheat sable.
 
The Free Company is also easily identified by tunics of black with a burgundy, black and gold trim with wheat stalks. Each fighter's garb is tailored to their personality and persona, encouraging individuality but unity.
 
==Founding==
The Free Company was informally organized in 2020, and structured in 2021.
The founding members include Alondra Martel, [[Wulfgard Martel]], Oswald Martel, D'mitrii Zinonovich, [[Iziaslava Veronikeia Myshkovicha]], Ulfr, Penelope Martel, [[Runa Bjarnardottir]], [[Micauley Morison]], and Arthur Martel.
 
==Shanghai==
To be Shanghai'd is a manner of joining the Free Company. These members are considered by the Free Comppany to be a full member of the Free Company but the individual may or may not function as a member or claim to be a part of the group themselves.
Within the charter of the Free Company there were two individuals who had been involuntarily shanghai'd into the group: [[Set Sette]] and [[Charles the Grey of Mooneschadowe]].

Commandant is the Free Company field commander, this position unofficially includes responsibilities like armoring new members of the free company, keeping members from making decisions that would make them unable to take the field, and assisting members in attending wars

==Traditions==
===Gatherings===
At twice a year, they come together to host an AllThing, at which All The Things happen. They vote on Commandant, new rules, and any other business that needs doing. Anyone may attend the AllThing, and if you show up, your opinion will matter.
 
Valhotdog is another form of Free Company gathering, focused around a day of fighting, food, and telling stories. Valhotdog's often serve as an unofficial regional practice. Like with the AllThing, anyone may attend a Valhotdog

The Free Company hosts a regular shop night, normally weekly, in which anyone may come and use tools and receive armoring advice. In exchange, those who attend are expected to listen to the stories and ramblings of other attendees.
