* May 2025: Competed in my first archery and thrown weapons competitions at Namron Beltane, and got slain by the Rapier Dragon 
**Authorized for Rapier Archery at VMA II, and began plotting the deaths on the field of every white scarf and MoD in the kingdom

**Joined the steward team for Namron Protectorate as a minion 
* October 2025: 
** Namron Protectorate happened! And it was awesome! It was an absolutely nonstop weekend, between helping with 2 processions, competing in the rapier tournament, and sanitation coordinating, but I had a blast. 
** Won Yeoman of the Eclipse at Mooneschadowe Triumph, and began plotting another act of sewing. 
* November 2025 
** At Skorragardr Axeman, I was honored to receive the Torsade of Namron for services to the Barony, and the Brazier of Vindheim in recognition of teaching both archery and rapier. The scrolls are beautiful, and I will wear the awards with pride. I love teaching archery in particular, and it felt amazing to be recognized by their Stormy Excellencies and my Prince and Princess in this way. Axeman was a fantastic event from start to finish, with a really fun rapier tournament on the planks and a closely-fought archery tournament. I got to try lyst heraldry for the first time, crying the Chiv and Youth Chiv tournaments. I did not compete in the Bardic tournament, but I did get to sing Cormac Mor's "The Submitter's Lament" between rounds, thus fulfilling a promise to my friend Lord [[Ashina Nobusada]]. There were bubbles and black olives and hot chocolate and really good bread and wonderful conversations with friends. Overall, a delightful event, and I'm excited for next year. Vivat Skorragardr! 
* December 2025
** At Wiesenfeuer Yule, I won both the Chess championship, and more surprisingly, the A&S championship. It was my first time competing in A&S, and I'm still a little shocked, but I'm looking forward to the year ahead. I was also honored to receive a Golden Beacon in recognition of my efforts teaching archery and rapier. 
** At Winter Crown tournament I assisted with lyst heraldry and ended up heralding the semifinals! It was very exciting.
 
====2026:====
* January 2026 
** At Winter Coronet, I got to do procession heraldry for the first time. This helpful yelling thing is lots of fun.
** At wInterkingdom, I assisted [[Bridgette of York]] with setting up the Princess Tea for Princess Adena, had a lot of fun with Vanya's Brawl-erina class, and got to compete in the Vindheim Princess Champion tournament.

====Aurora's Quest====
After another excellent Salle de Stormweasels practice on July 9, 2025, Veronica approached me and offered to work with me as my Doña or (following her elevation in October) as my MoD. Being unsure whether I wanted to pursue a formal studentship in rapier, I expressed that to her and asked what it would mean to be her student. In response, she offered me a Quest, consisting of fighting 100 people, speaking with the members of each Peerage and Grant order in Ansteorra, doing several kinds of service, and some amount of research and an A&S project. The Quest does not require that I commit to a formal studentship, with her or anyone else, but is instead intended to give me a broader understanding of the SCA and what studentship means so that I can make a more informed decision. All of that sounded like things I wanted to do anyway, so I have taken her Quest. Once I start, I have a year to complete it. I look forward to the journey.

====January 10, 2026====
Yesterday was an absolutely amazing day! We got to recognize so many awesome people! 
 
We also created two new awards. One is a second level service award to the Golden Comb, the Terick’s Hammer. That award was originally created during my tenure as Baroness of Namron with Orlando Giovanni and in conjunction with the then Baron and Baroness of Wiesenfeuer Keiron and Branislava. It was created as a cross baronial second level youth service award. We were approached by the current Baron and Baroness of Wiesenfeuer Isaac and Eadwyn about the possibility of making it a Vindheim award this reign and in consultation with Yarl Owen Ap Aeddan, his wife Genevria and the Baroness and Baronessa of Namron Isabella and Emma O'Ruairc we decided to make that happen. This award was established originally to keep alive the memory of Terick, Owen and Genevria’s son who passed away in a fire. We were honored to be able to make the premiere at the principality level, Patrick Isaacsson. He it’s an exemplary youth in our principality and so deserving of this honor. 
 
We also created an award to recognize those who have been a driving force behind recruitment and retention in our great principality for many many years. That award is the Order of the Griffins Heart and our premiere was [[Charles the Grey of Mooneschadowe]]. 
 
Our other big award given was our Bastion. The Bastion is such a special award. We can only choose one. But that choice was narrowed down pretty quickly and we decided it could be no other than Yarl Owen. He is a driving force in Vindheim. He is someone who had been here since the beginning. He is the heart and soul of this principality. He is so very deserving of this award. 
 
Following court, there was the tournament. Everyone fought with honor and chivalry and in the end, Cadmus and Adena emerged victorious! I’m so excited for them and so excited to see them reign and all the wonderful things that they will do! 
 
Thank you to the event steward Lady [[Lyra Fiammetta Caravaggio|Lyra]] who did an amazing job! We appreciate all your hard work!

89th Coronation at Namron Protectorate

==Coronation of Jean-Paul III and Gilyan III==
As documented by Golden Staff Herald, Maitre [[Etienne De Saint Amaranth]]. 
 
It was a bright and clear day on the Feast of Saint Meinulph (October 5), he who saw the stag with a cross in its antlers, became an archbishop, and founded the convent of Böddeken in Westphalia, Germany, when Jean-Paul de Sens and Gilyan Alienora of Clonmacnoise, each third of that name, claimed the Stellar thrones and crowns of Ansteorra and declared themselves King and Queen. 
The coronation occurred as part of the festivities hosted by the Barony of Namron where their champions are chosen. 
This was a Coronation which included a few things, if not firsts, then certainly of rarity. First was Coronation not being an event solely dedicated to that momentous occasion. But Namron’s generosity and hospitality solved some misalignment of stars and conflicts of calendars. It was intentional on the part of Their Royal Highnesses to streamline coronation court as much as possible to preserve time for Namron’s activities and for the King’s Champion tourney which would occur later that afternoon (also a change as it traditionally happens in the morning). 
Their Royal Highnesses appeared that day with themselves and their court dressed in finest Elizabethan. And they included in their day elements inspired by the Coronation of Elizabeth the First of England as will be pointed out below. 
Their Royal Highnesses were heralded before the assembled populace and approached the vacant thrones which were guarded by the chivalry of the realm. But, where normally the chivalry issue a challenge before letting the claimants pass to the thrones and crowns and later the Lions of Ansteorra, Defenders of the Dream, issue a separate challenge before handing over the sword of state, this time in a surprise to the claimants and most present the kingdom’s newest knight who was also the newest Lion, Sir John Drake, issued a single combined challenge. 
The challenge was met and thrones and crowns were claimed. They crowned themselves and the reign of Jean-Paul III and Gilyan III had begun. They took the sword of state and swore the following to the people of Ansteorra (inspired in part by Elizabeth the First’s oath to her people at her coronation). 
''Here do we swear to serve the Kingdom of Ansteorra'' 
''To rule according to the laws and traditions of these lands.'' 
''To uphold chivalry and honor, support the arts and sciences, cherish those who serve, defend the courtiers and scholars, and aim to encourage the hope of the populace.'' 
''We will deal fairly in all matters great and small and set an example of justice and compassion.'' 
''Till death take us, the world end, or our rightful heirs are prepared to take up these Crowns.'' 
 
Their Royal Majesties then began the process of receiving fealty oaths. First, Their Royal Majesties asked the chivalry to stand witness as they received the fealty of the Prince and Princess of the Principality of Vindheim. Their Serene Highnesses swore the following: 
''Here do we swear fealty '' 
''to the Crown and Kingdom of Ansteorra,'' 
''We will be your Spear and Shield of Vindheim.'' 
''We will nurture her people, '' 
''increase her station,'' 
''and stand fast on your Northern lands.'' 
''To the populace entrusted to us,'' 
''we will present your Honor.'' 
''To you, our Crown, we will present '' 
''the fidelity of your lands and people.'' 
''To the Knowne World, '' 
''Vindheim will raise the glory of Ansteorra.'' 
 
Their Majesties replied with the following response oath which was their response to all oaths given to them: 
 
''We accept your oath, '' 
''and in return we swear to you.'' 
''We will heed your wise counsel in all things.'' 
''We will keep the welfare of Ansteorra first and foremost in all of our decisions.'' 
''We will work with you to enrich the lives of Her people.'' 
''We will reward that which is freely given,'' 
''By protecting you with our aid and giving you our love.'' 
''May all strength fail and the world turn against any who break this solemn oath.'' 
 
The knights then renewed their fealty, as their station requires. 
One Master of Arms then swore fealty, though it is not required of them. 
Those holding Mastery in the Order of the Laurel who wished to swear fealty, an option and not a requirement, then came forward and so swore. 
Those holding Mastery in the Order of the Pelican who wished to swear fealty, an option and not a requirement, then came forward and so swore. 
Those holding Mastery in the Order of the Defense who wished to swear fealty, an option and not a requirement, then came forward and so swore. 
Their Royal Majesties then summoned those Barons and Baronesses holding lands in fief to the crown to renew their fealty and give homage, as their entitlements require. Following the response, all of the Barons and Baronesses in-fief were given leave, save only Baroness Beatrix Funteyn who was retained by Her Majesty for additional words. 
 
Baroness Beatrix had previously given Her Majesty an act of service or of courtesy for which Her Majesty returned her thanks and a handkerchief. As was then explained, that specific act by itself was not sufficient to receive a Sable Sparrow or other award from the crown, but that act did not stand alone. There were many things Her Excellency had done that had been brought to the Crown’s attention, including words from out of kingdom. Their Majesties then told her they had hoped to have those words spoken to her by one from out of kingdom but travel arrangements had required an emissary to deliver them instead. The emissary, Mistress Tatiana, came forward and read the words sent concluding with the comment that thoughts could be summed up in one phrase if Their Majesties would allow a foreigner friend of their court to request a boon. Then to the surprise of Baroness Beatrix the voice of her Laurel from the Kingdom of Calontir, Countess Jane, spoke from behind her and asked if “for all she has done and all that she will do” would Their Majesties admit Beatrix to the Order of the Laurel. The Laurels were summoned, the candidacy of Beatrix confirmed, and then the order and candidate and friends exited court to congratulate the candidate on her upcoming elevation. 
 
The Greater and Lesser Officers of State then came forward and renewed their oaths of service, as required. 
 
Those holding Companionship in the Order of the White Scarf who wished to swear, an option and not a requirement, then came forward and so swore. 
 
Then those members of the populace who wished to swear personal fealty were invited forward and their oaths accepted. Throughout all of the oaths, Their Majesties presented tokens to those who swore fealty without having a requirement to do so. This included the populace. 
 
Then court was paused to continue later and the events and competitions of the day could begin. 
 
During the tournaments to select Namron’s martial champions in chivalric and rapier combat, between the rounds, Their Majesties left their pavilion and visited five groups who shared thoughts with them concerning topics or concerns they wanted to be in the forefront of Their Majesties minds throughout their reign. Their Majesties went to the pavilions or spaces of the Stronghold of Hellsgate, the Barony of Wiesenfeuer, the Shire of Brad Leah who were joined by the Barony of the Eldern Hills, they received via herald emissary words from the Barony of Stargate, and the Barony of Namron. These pilgrimages to receive these words and thoughts were modeled after the pageants Elizabeth I attended on the way to her coronation. 
 
Elizabeth inherited a kingdom wracked by religious turmoil in the wake of her father’s (Henry VIII) conversion to Protestantism, her brother Edward’s continuation of that, and the bloody reversal that was the reign of her sister Mary. In addition, the memories of the civil wars of the roses were not out of mind to the general populace. Elizabeth used the pageants as morality plays to set a tone of unity and peace (internally at least) for her coronation. Jean-Paul and Gilyan attended these sessions after crowning themselves to also collect thoughts and set a tone for their reign. While it is not the most authoritative source, the summary in that library known as Wikipedia of the “Coronation of Elizabeth I” offers a decent high level summation of the events for those who desire to read more and includes a nice set of works cited for deeper study. 
 
The court of Their Stellar Majesties continued that evening and will have a summary posted soon. 
 
In closing, let the scribe of these events share that while he will try to post summaries as quickly after an event as possible (something he has done when holding this position previously) there may be delays due to work or health or familial obligations. It is also his intent, where ever possible, to follow in the steps of his predecessor (Sæbjørn) and include images of the charters given for those receiving awards.

==Evening Court - Coronation of Jean-Paul III and Gilyan III==
As documented by Golden Staff Herald, Maitre [[Etienne De Saint Amaranth]]. 
 
The sun had set so this court resumed during the vigil of the feast of Saint Bruno the Carthusian (began evening of October 5, prior to the feast day on October 6), who fled after protesting against misdoings by his Archbishop and thereafter refused all ecclesiastical offices and helped establish the Carthusian Order. 
 
Most processions see all of the (to be) seated royalty and nobility enter in order of precedence (Crown, Heirs, Territorial Principalities, Baronys, etc.). But, though less common, it was not unusual in the Middle Ages to observe a landed noble who was rose from their seat or who waited at the gates of their castle to greet their liege lord and lady and then give them the seat of honor. (Think of the production of The Lion in Winter where Henry, as Duke of Normandy, comes out in crown and coat to welcome his liege, nevermind him being King of England, the King of France.) So this court began as the Baronesses of Namron rose from their seats and asked the assembled populace to rise with them and welcome the royal house of Ansteorra. Their Royal Majesties entered and were followed by Their Serene Highnesses of Vindheim. 
 
Once all were seated, the court of Jean-Paul III and Gilyan III resumed. Their Majesties used their opening words to announce the new Baron and Baroness of the Elder Hills, Abe no Saburou Sadasuke & Abe no Murasaki, to be invested at Eldern’s Samhain event. They also announced that, owing to Their Majesties attending Seawinds that same weekend, they had deputized Their Serene Highnesses of Vindheim to invest the new B&B in their place. By law, the Crown may delegate the giving of awards and rank to others. This commonly happens when the Crown has multiple events on the same weekend and most frequently when they ask Landed or Court B&Bs to hold court for them at an event they cannot attend. Some Crowns will not hand off grant level awards and it is vanishingly rare for Crowns to hand off Court Baronies, peerages or investitures, but it can and has been done. Legend says that there was a time before Ansteorra was a principality where Michael of Moria, Kingdom Seneschal of Atenveldt, was given blank letters patent and told to go find and make peers in the lands that became Ansteorra. More recently (about a decade ago-ish), a Crown could not reach a baronial investiture due to weather (an ice storm) and they deputized a Duke and Duchess from the royal family to do it for them. So, Their Serene Highnesses will perform this investiture at Samhain. 
 
Their Stellar Majesties then made three announcements related to Gulf Wars. First, they announced some changes to war points. Second they announced that opening ceremonies would happen on Sunday. And third they announced the A&S champions who would represent Ansteorra at Gulf Wars. Look for a separate post (not from this scribe) listing those champions if not already posted. 
 
In recent years, it has become a tradition for companions of the Order of the Rose or Order of the Golden Dove to give tokens at evening court (not always but at many events) for specific people who inspired them that day. On this day, those tokens were given during the day and at feast. At court, the following were announced as having been given: 
* Lady Mani from Viscountess Caterina
* Armiger Ekaterina Stepanova doch Novgorodskaia from Viscountess Emmelina
* Willoc from Duchess Margherita
* Maral of Mooneschadowe from Countess Michelle
 
At this point, Their Serene Highnesses of Vindheim opened their court and had words. 
 
Then the Baronesses of Namron resumed their court and had words, called the event stewards, gave awards and announced their champions from the various competitions of the day. 
 
Following this Vindheim gave principality awards and conducted business. 
 
I have not included, with one exception below, what Vindheim or Namron did in their courts but hope those things will be announced from those channels. That one exception, because it involves kingdom precedence, is to share that Iarll Owen ap Aeddan was made a companion of the Order of the Sable Storm of Namron, the baronial service order. 
 
At this point, business returned to the Crown. 
* His Majesty was pleased to announce that his King’s Champion would be the Armiger [[Kobayashi no Hotaru]]. They gave their oath and took their place to guard the king.
* [[Jehanne de Montauban]] was awarded a Sable Sparrow for being one of the top submitters of award recommendations.
* A representative of the Moneymakers Guild brought Their Stellar Majesties a royal pound in coins that they could give as tokens or to improve the kingdom’s economy and two silver coins of this coin strike to keep as personal momentos.
* [[Alice Livene]] was given a Sable Thistle in Weaving that was originally read into law during the prior reign.
* Their Graces, [[Sven Randullsson]] and [[Antigone of York]], were called and presented Sable Cranes for Royal Mentoring. Following this, Their Majesties retained Duchess Antigone and made her a companion of the Order of the Iris of Merit.
* [[Úallach inghean Uí Dhubhshláine]] was given a Sable Crane that was originally read into law during the prior reign.
* [[Matthew Marcus]] (aka Matthew Marcus Tulius) was given a Sable Thistle for Cooking that was originally read into law during the prior reign.
* [[Magnus Creppinson]] receive a Sable Talon for Rapier Combat.
* [[Úna of Marata]] was given a Sable Comet for service to the Riding of Marata that was originally read into law during the prior reign.
* At this point, Her Majesty took a moment of court to show the scroll covers that were being given with charters instead of just envelopes. She explained how they were easy to make, thanked her mother who had made about a hundred, and encouraged people to return them when possible so they could continue to be used.
* [[Muirenn Nia ingen Nath-I|Muirenn Nia inghean Nath-i]] was made a companion of the Order of the Star of Merit. This was originally read into law during the prior reign.
* [[Maral of Mooneschadowe]] was given an Award of Arms.
* [[Gelis of Iron Mountain]] was given an Award of Arms.
 
Following the above awards, Their Stellar Majesties summoned the Order of the Laurel and before the assembled court called [[Cera ingen Fháeláin]] as a candidate to the order. Reminder that, at Their Majesties coronation earlier that same day, Beatrix Funteyn was also called to this order. Announcements of dates for vigils and elevations to be announced separately from this accounting. 
 
The Order of the Laurel was released and the Order of the Pelican was summoned. Their Majesties then called (separately) before the assembled court [[Sorcha McCullogh]] and [[Lillias MacGuffin]] as candidates to the order. Announcements of dates for vigils and elevations to be announced separately from this accounting. 
 
Following this, Namron and then Vindheim closed their courts. And Their Majesties court was closed as they, their attendants, and the courts of Vindheim and Namron processed out.

It was an incredible honor to host such a momentous and rare event, combining the Barony of Namron’s Protectorate with the majesty of the Ansteorran Coronation. This year’s event was filled with camaraderie, competition, and the splendor of the Coronation ceremonies. We couldn't have done it without the incredible efforts of everyone involved.

From setting up the site to ensuring that each competition ran smoothly, every person involved played a crucial role in making this event a success.

Gate was expertly managed by Lady Katrina and her team, who processed nearly 400 attendees with efficiency and care, ensuring everyone had a smooth arrival.

===Persona History:===
Orlando Giovanni di' Gilead was born the son of a vineyard farmer in the Republic of Florence in the year 1524. The first 18 years of his life were somewhat uneventful but by 1542 most of the northern Italian states were being threatened by the British, Spanish and French bids to control Lombardy, Venice and most of the northern peninsula. In 1543 at the age of 19 Orlando joined the Spanish Imperial forces to repel the French under the Italian commander Prince Ferdinando Sanseverino. He saw his first action in the Battle of Ceresole, helping successfully repel the French before reaching Lombardi. 
 
Later, Orlando returned to Florence, now the capital city of the Dutchy of Tuscany. Having no interest in vineyards or farming, Orlando traveled to Rome. In Rome, Orlando sought and found a mentor in Maestro Camillo Agrippa, a master of both the sword and the sciences. In Rome, he also met his soon to be wife, Lady Caterina. 
 
Caterina Giovanni, originally Caterina Moncada, was also born in 1524 in Sicilia. Although Caterina's family had been of Nobel decent, Sicilia was a colonial holding of Spain and brutally governed by a greedy upper-class during the 16th century. A decade prior to her birth her family was stripped of many of it's titles and most of it's estates. Wishing to escape the oppression of the Spanish, Caterina fled at age 20 to Rome. Eventually, meeting her Husband Orlando.

There are SO many stories about Orlando Giovanni. One is his letter of intent for Queen’s Champion for Michelle. He filked Lewis Carol’s poem You are Old Father William and made it out how he became a Don. The especially loved the part about having three sets of clothes and arguing “each seam with my wife”. He’s performed the piece at bardic circles as has Ermagerd. If you’ve never heard it you need to ask for his rendition for it is sure to make you laugh with delight.

==Combat Format==
Swiss seven. The weapon styles will be as follows:
* Single dagger - Blade may be no more than 8". Total length is 18" or less
* Great Sword - length of the sword must be the height of the user or greater Dane axe - minimum of 48" in length
* 6' Glaive
* Bastard Sword - must be the height of the user or less and be used with two hands
* 6' spear - tip only
* 7 1/2' Glaive

If there is a need for a bye it will be non-destructive. 
Finals will be the top 8 in score. 
Fighters will use any weapons style from the first seven rounds but styles do not have to match. 
Should more than 8 qualify by score, those with the lowest score shall fight single rounds of dagger until only 8 remain. 
Final round will be best of three fights of the following: 
* Dane Axe
* 6' Glaive
* Bastard Sword
One of the goals of this tourney will be to test overall knowledge of multiple weapon styles and endurance. Another goal is to allow all who enter to have plenty of fun fights and to enjoy their day.

There is going to be a new activity at the 86th Queen's Champion Celebration on January 21st, 2023, 1x1 training with previous Queen's Champions and/or fighting Roses. I encourage all those eager to add to the rapier skills they already possess, take advantage of this unique opportunity. 
After the first part of the Queen's Champion Tournament has concluded, there will be a dedicated list set off to the side where former Queen's Champions and/or fighting Roses will be available and ready for 1x1 fighting/training. This list is open to all previous Queen's Champions and/or fighting Roses, plus anyone who wants to join them in the list. I've spoken to a couple of Champions who generously offered to participate in this 1x1 training.

Good evening, 
Thank you to everyone who is planning on attending and/or fighting at the 86th Queen's Champion Celebration. It is such a wonderful thing to have a front row seat for an event celebrating the rapier community.
This event is about honoring the rapier community, and those who have dedicated a huge amount of their time to serve the Queen and Kingdom. The fact that many of you pre-signed up to participate in the Queen's Champion Tournament warms my heart, regardless if you are fighting to be the next champion or fighting to be part of the day. 
The number of fighters signed up for Queen's Champion Tournament is inspiring. However, it does create some timing and logistic challenges (absolutely a good challenge to have). As a result, the format of the first part of the tournament will be determined by the number of fighters in the tournament (whether they are going for it or not). The list mistresses and I have been in communication trying to figure out the best format for the number of fighters and the time allotted for the tournament. We are still in discussions because they have mentioned a lot of valid points. So, with the caveat that the format may need to change, I can share with you our initial thoughts about the tournament format. 
What the list mistresses and I are thinking for the first part of the tournament is: 
If there are 48 fighters or less, we will have 4 lists, up to 8-12 fighters per list, and each fighter in that list will get 8 bouts.

Note: Weapon forms are not dictated. The entire tournament is "Bring your best". 
The bow out round will be after part 1 of the tournament concludes, and before part 2 starts. 
 
Part 2 of the tournament will be the Top 8 from part 1 of the tournament who are fighting to be the next Queen's Champion. This will be the traditional single elimination, best 2 out of 3, weapon of choice. Double kills will be refought.

Greetings Ansteorra, 
Wow! What a phenomenal event the Barony of [[Bordermarch]] held yesterday. Their Excellencies, Meurik and Gabby, and many, many Bordermarchians organized, planned, and executed one of the most beautifully executed, rapier focused events We had the pleasure to attend in a while. Many thanks to the event steward, Honorable Lady Eireann Hviturhrafn, and her team for making a Queen feel like the most special person in the world. There were many things done to cater to the Queen and rapier community that enhanced the celebration for all. Speaking of catering, Lady Aveline bit Belrose, did an incredible job as feast steward, pulling together many skilled cooks to provide an incredible luncheon buffet feast. 
Special thanks to the List Mistresses, Countess Michelle, Countess Deanna, Mistress Myfanwy, and Honorable Lady Nicaize, who without their expertise, knowledge and collaboration would have been nearly impossible to keep on schedule. Their collaboration and recommendations to have a tournament in a format I desired, allowed the fighters to showcase their skill, provide lots of fighting the opportunities, and keep within the specified timeframe, made it possible for ALL of those things to happen. Handling a 2 phase tournament with 55 fighters is no small task, and they handled it like real pros.
Thanks to all of the list heralds and marshals who kept the lists running smoothly while enhancing the atmosphere that we are supportive of each other. They allowed the fighters to have their day in the list by choosing to not fight and fulfill these essential jobs. 
Thanks to all the fighters who entered the tournament. Whether it was to participate in the day, or to endeavor to serve as Queen’s Champion, your presence showed the rapier community is strong and thriving. Witnessing smiling faces and laughter during the bouts, knowing the stakes involved, impassioned me to immerse myself even further into the rapier community. The skill I witnessed was awe inspiring. 
Thanks to my Queen’s Champions, Master Orazio and Honorable Lady Veronica. While Orazio’s time as my Champion was brief, it was meaningful. I’ve witnessed him be a fantastic champion to many Queens before me and I was grateful I was able to call him My Champion for a brief time. As happy as I was that Orazio was by my side, I am ecstatic Honorable Lady Veronica is My Champion now. She fought her way through the list of very skilled fighters to earn her place by side. I am grateful that Veronica had the will and desire to be my champion. I have no doubt her and I will have a fun time being side by side, and I’m looking forward to it.
Thanks to Mistress Tatiana who made the amazing outfit I had on at the event. I felt so good in that outfit, it was like I was a Queen gliding a few inches from the ground.

Winterkingdom, hosting Sable Soldier, was an incredible event. There was 60 hours of classes, melee fighting, lunch, largess derby, silent auction, a delicious and sentimental feast, and three courts. A whole lot of fun packed into one event. 
Thanks to Their Serene Highnesses for recognizing deserving individuals with awards from both the principality and kingdom. Your ties to the Vindheim populace is inspiring. 
Thanks to Their Excellencies of Northkeep and the entire event staff for organizing, running and hosting such a great event. Time seemed to fly by because all of the fun while learning that was constant throughout the day. In addition, thanks to the kitchen staff, for putting such delicious food on our plates. We enjoyed tasting every food item from every remove. 
Thanks to Sir Martel (Tim Drost) and the Chivalry of Ansteorra for organizing Sable Soldier. You made it possible for us to come together and play over, and over, and over again. We had a variety of melee scenarios, fast-paced and fun, where we watched our units improve their cohesion and command in real time. At the end the Chivalry recognized Vindheim as the unit to carry the Sable Soldier banner at Gulf Wars. Vivat Vindheim!
Thanks to our on site chancellor, Mistress Colleen, who made sure everything was taken care of for us and the entourage. You had a long day of hard work to make it so we wanted for nothing, and we always had the support we needed. 
Thanks to our Golden Staff, Sir Absolon, who worked with many others to coordinate three courts; Northkeep baronial court, Vindheim principality court, and Ansteorra kingdom court. All 3 courts worked seamlessly together to recognize deserving individuals. Also thanks to all of the court heralds for working together to coordinate the flow of the courts. We launch most enthusiastically into Our reign. This wondrous kingdom is a deep wellspring of experiences, and We intend to progress through as many of them as possible. The kingdom's calendar is packed, from the windswept plains to the coasts of the sea, and the threat of war looms as our friends from Trimaris march to the field to test our mettle. 
 
A brief note about awards during this reign: We intend to summon in advance those deserving individuals that We see fit to recognize in court. We have decided that, while it is great fun to spring a surprise on friends, it is often not the best experience for the recipient. Therefore, We will alert those whom We would recognize so they might prepare, as well as alert Us should there be problems with scheduling, concerns about special needs, or anything else.

Greetings, mighty Ansteorra! 
March brings one of the friendliest wars we have the opportunity to experience. Gulf Wars XXXI is upon us. We are looking forward to Ansteorra coming together with Trimaris and the other kingdoms of the Knowne World on the lands of Glenn Abhann for fun, camaraderie, and competition. There is so much to do, see, and experience at Gulf Wars XXXI, wonderful memories will be created that will last for years to come. Ansteorra, we march to war.
 
Gulf Wars is, in fact, the reason behind some recent law changes. The calendar has been reverted such that Crown Tourney and Coronation are situated so that the Heirs will be positioned to attend Pennsic. Populace of Ansteorra, this is where preparation for Gulf Wars begins, and Gulf Wars is the event that dominates the winter reign. There is no substitute for human contact in negotiations and seeking allies. Gulf Wars, too, must happen later in the winter reign, in order for Crown to have time to mobilize the kingdom, arrange to fulfill duties assigned to the kingdom by treaty, coordinate with other kingdoms about the war schedules, and so on. The logistics and timing of the current schedule, performed from the position of the Heirs, put Ansteorra at an unintended disadvantage.
 
However, in reverting to this schedule, We have considered that the summer heat of July is oppressive and that Heirs from a July Crown have a very short time before Pennsic. Crown Tourney is now scheduled in June, before the true summer heat begins, and this gives the Heirs an additional month to prepare. Furthermore, recognizing the burden this places on the Heirs, We have coordinated with the Kingdom Financial Committee to allocate a dedicated fund solely to offset the costs of the Heirs' travel to Pennsic for the current year. Future years will have budgeted funds for the same purpose.

Last month We traveled up and down these great Ansteorran lands. While we are all part of the same stellar kingdom, each event had its own charm and character that We were fortunate to participate and witness. Below are the events We attended in February and look forward to attending again in the future. 
 
Mooneshadowe's Provincial Games (February 4th): This event was a melee fighters dream. There were uniquely Mooneshadowe melee scenarios that had both armored and rapier fighters on the field and active. We also enjoyed the A&S projects that were works in progress at the event, as well as the A&S display competition. Thanks to the autocrats, [[Taidhgin O'Quin]] and [[Jacob of Mooneschadowe]], and the entire event staff for running such a fun event. Thanks to Our onsite Chancellor, [[Colleen O'Kelly]], who as usual made sure all logistics were taken care of before We even inquired about them. Thanks to those who helped with set up and tear down, including [[Vincenti da Murano|Vincenti]], [[Margherita de Mantua|Margherita]], Louis, [[Orlando Giovanni|Orlando]], and a few others who were helping Us out while We were engaged in other matters. Thanks to Our entourage for the day; Theresa, [[Eadwyn seo Gathyrde|Eadwyn]], [[Perrin de Beaujeu|Perrin]], Beatrix, Marguerite, [[Anastasiia Dmitrieva Sokolova|Anastasiia]], Romanius and [[Jehanne de Montauban|Jehanne]], for giving a couple hours of their time. Thanks to Our Champions, Skeggi and Veronica, who stood by Us on whatever field We were on (HRM Gabriel was on the rapier field, and HRM Sonja was on the armored field). 
 
Laurel's Prize Tourney (February 11th): What a spectacular display of artistry and knowledge, all in one building. It was great to see the mix of first time displayers right alongside the experienced, practiced displayers. It was inspiring to see the wealth of knowledge that was freely shared with EVERYONE. Thanks to the event steward, [[Haraldr Bassi]], and the entire LPT staff for creating such a nurturing, learning arts & sciences environment. Thanks to Our Royal Steward, [[Lessandra Della Torre]], who doubled as Our onsite chancellor, for handling everything for Us so We could spend the day discussing arts & sciences with everyone. Thanks to the setup/move around/breakdown crews to helped out. Thanks to the White Scarves that attended the Queen. Thanks to Our entourage for the day: [[Absolon of Hereford|Absolon]], Marguerite, Lessandra, Philippe, [[Aldric de Kerr|Aldric]], [[Nicaize Maupetit|Nicaize]], [[Silvana Corwin|Silvana]], [[Myfanwy Ferch Eifion|Myfanwy]], Suzanne and [[Malkyn Hawke|Malkyn]], for spending time with Us. 
 
Graywood's Battle of the Pines (February 18th): There is nothing quite like witnessing “all the things” being done with local group flair. Graywood's event had armored fighting, rapier fighting, target archery, A&S display/competition, bardic competition, and feast. The comradery that We felt and witnessed the entire day was motivating and inspiring. Thanks to the event stewards, [[Aine ingen Oitir]] and [[Alfred Bjornson]], and the event staff who made Battle of the Pines so successful. Thanks to Countess Michelle for stepping in as Our onsite Chancellor, for making sure We had everything we needed for the day. Thanks to the setup/breakdown helpers, y'all moved so quickly to get things done, it was like a blur. Thanks to Our entourage; Marie, Nikolai, Melodie, William, Kristodr, Gabriella, Vanessa & Tanne, Katheryn, Mary and Gwenfrewi, for donating a few hours of your time to attend Us.
 
Raven's Fort's A Day in the Forest (February 25th): A Day in the Forest was a wonderful, Robin Hood, themed event. There was fun and merriment to be had all day and into the evening feast. We especially enjoyed the extra effort Their Excellencies and populace did to dive into the theme of the day, like the Robin Hood costume contest (some people went all out), giving out chocolate coins, and Robin's merry men robbing from the rich on the road between places and giving to the poor. Thanks to the event steward, HL [[Eireann Hviturhrafn]], and the Raven's Fort staff for holding an event that was a pleasure to be a part of. Thanks to the White Scarves who attended the Queen. HRM was only robbed at hairbrush point when you were on another errand for Her Majesty. Thanks to Our Royal Steward/Onsite Chancellor, Lessandra Della Torre, for being so involved. We never have a concern when We know you are involved. If Lessandra is handling it, it will be done and better than We could imagine. Thanks to Our entourage: Mary Elizabeth, Fastrada, Nicaize, Tanne, Nikolai, Asa, Malkyn, Valerie, Vanessa and Gabriella. It was a joy spending time with you on a bright, sunny day. 
 
If the enjoyment We had at February's events is any indication of future events, We are in for a good time at future events.

Wow, what an incredible Gulf War! Ansteorra's jewel shone from so many facets. To
highlight just a few:
* An Ansteorran won War Bard.
* An Ansteorran won A&S.
* An Ansteorran also won the wood joust.
* Many Ansteorrans won their bouts, in both armored and rapier fighting, in the Champions Tourney. All Ansteorrans in the Champions Tourney fought with skill, integrity, talent, honor, and panache. This year the tournament consisted of 5 fighters from our allies, 4 up and coming (AoA level or non-awarded) fighters, 3 grant level fighters, and 3 peerage level fighters in each marshal discipline (armored combat and rapier), for a total of 30 fighters.
* An Ansteorran won the Ansteorran Rose Tournament. There were 140 entrants in the tournament representing almost all of the kingdoms and principalities in attendance at Gulf Wars. Ansteorra had 6 fighters, the highest number of fighters from a single kingdom/principality, in the quarter finals.
* An Ansteorran won the Meridian Rose Tournament. There were 82 fighters in the tournament, and Ansteorra had the highest number of fighters in the final 16 for the single elimination phase of the tourney. All six of the Ansteorrans in the final 16 were Centurions.
* An Ansteorran won the Meridian Rose Youth Tournament.
* The team with Ansteorrans won the Youth Combat Melee Tournament.
* Ansteorra Chili Night was a great success. Something in the ballpark of 55 gallons of chili was happily consumed.
* The Knowne World Party, hosted by Ansteorra, was a wonderfully fun, social experience. We received praise from our Royal Cousins, many of them, stating Ansteorra's hospitality is EPIC.
Gulf Wars wasn't the only event on our calendar in March. There was also Commander's Crucible in the Stronghold of Hellsgate on March 25th. So much talent and fun was witnessed, we were excited to share the day with those who truly enjoy supporting each other. Laughter could be heard rolling over the gentle hills of Belton, Texas. It was a perfect way to spend a post Gulf Wars weekend, back in Ansteorra's lands. 
We recently made a change to the King's Archer award. Previously it was for target and combat archery. Now, the definition recognizes achievements in all missile weapons. After some discussion with members of the missile community, representing multiple disciplines, the name has been kept the same. This is in line with the Arc d'Or, whose definition was similarly expanded a few years ago.

Crown Tourney comes to this fair kingdom in June. We will be strictly following kingdom law for eligibility. The format will be weapon of choice, single elimination, best two of three. Double kills will be refought for each point until there is a clear victor. We will not require a letter of intent, but registration online will be mandatory. Please watch official online channels for the registration form announcement. Registration will close at noon on June 3. 
As this reign advances, We are most grateful to Their Serene Highnesses Micauley and Caterina and the Landed Nobles of this kingdom for presenting awards and announcements when
holding court where We are not present. We, as a kingdom, are most fortunate to have
multiple avenues by which worthy gentles may be recognized for their accomplishments.
We have recently attended the following events on Our Progress: 
 
Ansteorra Trident (April 1st, 2023): The kingdom was able to give a different type of event a try and it was a great success. The Barony of Elfsea hosted Ansteorra Trident - A Day of the Blade, the Bow, and The Bard, on the first Saturday in April. It was a tri-championship event where Anstorrans competed for the Royal Blade, Royal Hunter, and Premier Bard. There was so much talent in diversified arenas of skill. We appreciate all the efforts Elfsea, under the guidance and direction of His Excellency William Palfrey as event steward, made to ensure Trident was the best multiple championships We could have hoped for. Thank you to all the communities that came out to support the event and made it very interesting to watch. Each of the championships, Royal Blade, Royal Hunter, and Eisteddfod, were a pleasure to watch, with so many having fun participating in activities where the result of winning is a commitment to serve. Our Royal Steward, Her Excellency Lessandra, as usual, showed Us how committing to serve makes the kingdom and events better for everyone enabling others to have a good time. Our entourage for the day helped keep things moving, so all the activities could happen as scheduled, which shows respect for everyone's time. 

Glaslyn Defender of the Flame (April 22nd, 2023): We look forward to this event every year, and for good reason: it is FUN. The laughter could be heard across the beautiful scenic backdrop and smiles could be seen everywhere. It was a wonderful day watching monkeys entertain themselves and the watching crowd. Seeing the variety of activities that took place throughout the day was inspiring. Thanks to the event stewards and Gaslyn for organizing and executing a fun filled, truly enjoyable day. Thanks to our Onsite Chancellor for the day, Mistress Colleen, who anticipated and took care of all Our needs before We had the chance to think about them. Colleen is the epitome of efficiency and proof positive that pre-planning makes everything run smoothly. We appreciate the entourage staff who gives of their time to help others have fun.

Our Progress continues! 
Coastal Marshal Academy (May 6th, 2023): Thanks to the baronies of Loch Soilleir and Stargate for including the Kingdom Middle Eastern Dance Championships and the Premier Thrown Weapons Championships as part of their event. It was a wonderful day of learning and displays of great skill. It was a joy to share the day with all the White Scarves who spend time guarding, entourage, champions, teachers, staff and populace. Such a good time was had that time seemed to fly by; from the morning activities, to late afternoon court, to the festive Hafla in the evening. 
Elfsea Defender (May 13th, 2023): The Barony of Elfsea never disappoints. It was an incredible day of great displays of prowess while having fun and injecting some silliness for the entertainment of the audience and fellow fighters. It was a great event, filled with laughter, camaraderie, and respect. It was apparent, during court, that Their Excellencies, Kazimierz and Katheryn, care deeply for Elfsea and all of Ansteorra. After 5 years as Elfsea's Landed Nobility, Their Excellencies are going to be retiring to promote Elfsea to grow in new and exciting ways under the guidance of others. Thanks to all; the staff that made this event possible, the entourage and guards standing with us, and everyone who attended, contributing to the unity that makes Ansteorra awesome. 
Northkeep's Castellan (May 19th – 21st, 2023): The Barony of Northkeep does something
wonderful at Castellan. They open their championships to all contenders, then choose an
overall victor who competes well in several of the tourneys. Ansteorra, to see a diverse set of skills from numerous members of the populace is most pleasing. 
Steppes Warlord (May 26th – 29th, 2023): As usual, Steppes filled the weekend of Warlord with a multitude of activities. A bevy of merchants, a cascade of tournaments, campfires and camaraderie. The barony endeavored to pack the days full of challenge and champions. We were also fortunate to have some representatives of the Sable Shields speak some words to the date itself, that we might remember those in the armed forces who came before and gave of themselves in defense of this country. 
Calontir's Valor (May 26th- 29th, 2023): The hospitality of Calontir exceeded every expectation. Thank you to Her Majesty, Marie, Their Excellencies of Vatavia, and the populace of Calontir for holding a wonderful event. It is with much appreciation that thanks need to go out to The Ansteorrans who also attended this out of kingdom event, starting with Her Serene Highness, Princess Caterina, for continuing to foster happy relationships between Vindheim and Calontir. 
For our entourage; HE Lessandra, Mistress Marguerite, HG Margherita, Maestro Vincenti, and Maestro Orlando, who went above and beyond to make sure every need of Her Serene Highness and I were met even before we thought to ask for it. The ability to spend time with you all is a real benefit to our offices.

I have been super impressed with Their Royal Majesties, Gabriel & Sonja. They have rocked the boat more than I've seen from other Crowns (at least outside of fighting, I can't speak on that). But every time they've made an unpopular decision, they have then explained their reasoning and it has made sense every time.

Their Royal Majesties go above and beyond to cater to those with anxiety issues in ways that really show how much they love the populace of Ansteorra. They have taken care to acknowledge gender neutral or gender nonconforming populace when they receive their Awards of Arms.

It is quite evident that they put a lot of thought into their decisions and have the best interests of our kingdom at heart. They have been incredibly responsive to any and all contact I have had with them, often responding to emails within minutes, regardless of the time of day (or night)!

==Introduction==

The Stellar Kingdom of Ansteorra Thrown Weapons Royal Rounds (TWRR) has been founded as a means for thrown weapons participants in the Kingdom to have a set of standardized rules, using standardized targets, with a standardized course of throw (round), at standardized ranged distances, so the throwers can directly compare their abilities to the abilities of throwers in other regions of the kingdom, without the necessity of traveling to the same place at the same time. All SCA rules and regulations, both Society level and at the Kingdom level shall be observed.

The TWRR is open to all competitors, of all ages, inside the Stellar Kingdom of Ansteorra the SCA.

==Target Design and Construction==

Only scores from rounds thrown at official events may be submitted for the TWRR. Official Events "are those activities that are defined as Society Events" in the governing documents of the SCA. This definition, for purposes of TWRR, also includes announced practices held under the auspices of a local SCA branch. "Announced" includes any form of general notification to the group, including electronic means like e-mail lists, Google Calendar, Facebook groups or events, or similar online forums.

The Standard TWRR target face shall be a multi-color concentric circle target. This target face can be made of paper, cardboard, or other similar material, or can simply be painted on the target backing. The smallest circle shall be a golden circle 3" in diameter and shall count as five (5) points. The next largest ring shall be a red ring 8" in diameter and shall count as three (3) points. The outer most circle shall be blue ring 14" in diameter and shall count as one (1) point. The backing for the target face is left up to the local person running the competition, baronial marshal, or MIC (see Thrown Weapons Marshal’s Handbook for clarifications). It is recommended that for knife and axe throwing, an end grain "round" of wood be used, preferably of a soft wood such as pine or fir. Use of "hard" wood, plywood, or side grain type target backing is discouraged, as it is more difficult to get a knife or axe to stick into this type backing, thereby putting the competitors throwing at it under some disadvantage. In the event that a suitable "end grain" round or equivalent cannot be found with a diameter of 14" or greater, the outer circle may be smaller than the specified 14". But be aware, it will still be counted and scored the same as if it was full size, which will put those competitors throwing at it under some disadvantage also.

For spear throwing, two or preferably three hay bales, one on top of the other, is recommended. The use of wooden target backings of any type for spears is highly discouraged, as it tends to damage most spears, and it is more difficult to get a spear to stick into this type target, which will put those competitors throwing at it under some disadvantage also. Other backing materials (such as multiple layers of carpet, or foam or insulation boards) may also be used for knife, axe, or spear targets, if that is all that is available.

The center of the target face for knife, axe and spear targets should be between three and a half and five feet off the ground. Any weapon "cutting" a dividing line between two colored circles shall be scored as having hit the higher of the two areas. Weapons hitting outside the outer circle or missing the backing altogether shall count as zero (0). All weapons must stick into the target and must remain in the target until pulled for score, except that spears which pass totally through the target may be "judged" by the range-master to have scored in the ring where he believes it struck. Spears do not have to remain free-standing in the target to count, as long as the point is still obviously "in" the target. The person throwing may request his weapons be scored and pulled after each throw, if he so desires.

Plumbata targets will follow the same 3 concentric rings design and point system as the rest of the RR thrown weapons with the following exceptions. The center golden ring will be 8 inches and will be worth 5 points. The middle red ring will be 20 inches and equal to 3 points. The outer most ring, the blue ring, will be 36 inches and worth 1 point. The target will be horizontal ground target with distances measured from the center of the target to the foul line.

Slings will follow the same targets specifications as plumbatae with one change: the target will be vertically placed with the center of the target face being between three and a half and five feet off the ground. The center golden ring will be 8 inches and will be worth 5 points. The middle red ring will be 20 inches and equal to 3 points. The outermost ring, the blue ring, will be 36 inches and worth 1 point.

==Weapons==

A. Axes may only have a single cutting edge (bit) for scoring. The scoring bit must be no more than 4" in length. Double bit axes or axes with top or butt spikes must be identified ahead of the throw to be used for scoring. Any throwing axe used must not be prohibited for thrown weapons use in the Kingdom where it is being used.

B. Knives to be thrown may be single or double-edged, or be simply pointed with no "edge" (spikes), but may only have one pointed end. These rules do not set any maximum or minimum sizes on throwing knives, but any throwing knife used must not be prohibited for thrown weapons use in the Kingdom where it is being used.

C. Spears to be thrown generally should not be barbed, as barbed spears tend to damage targets, but with the permission of the person running the range and/or providing the target or backing, they may be barbed. Spears are limited to a single sticking point for purposes of scoring. These rules do not set any maximum or minimum sizes on throwing spears, but any throwing spear used must not be prohibited for thrown weapons use in the Kingdom where it is being used.

D. Plumbatae to be thrown generally should not be overly long (usually under 24”). The tips and weights should be firmly affixed to the shaft of the plumbata. The shaft should be smooth enough not to give splinters to an unprotected hand upon release. Plumbatae are limited to a single sticking point for purposes of scoring.

E. Sling bodies shall be of any natural material. This includes leather, cloth or woven fibers. Slings must have a restraining device for the hand, such that the sling cannot fly out of the hand. Acceptable methods would be: Wrist loops, finger loops, disk / toggle for finger or hand grip, any acceptable restraining device approved by the marshal of the field. Slings must not have any rips, tears, or fraying of the material. Slings shall be constructed so that the maximum folded length shall not be longer than 36”. See guidebook for accepted target ammo.

==Distances==

These distances will be as follows. For Axes and knives, the throwers forward most foot must stay between the range identified. No foot may extend closer to the target than the minimum distance provided. All distances must be measured, not paced off, and are taken from the face of the target to the foul line. Anyone stepping on or over the foul line during or immediately after throwing will have that throw disqualified, and be given a zero point score for that throw only.

A. Axes are to be thrown between these distances:

(5 x) minimum distance Ten (10) feet

(5 x) minimum distance Fifteen (15) feet

(5 x) minimum distance Twenty (20) feet

B. Knives are to be thrown from beyond these minimum distances:

(5 x) minimum distance Ten (10) feet

C. Spears are to be thrown from beyond these minimum distances:

==Tournament Format==

The standard course of throw (a round) shall consist of five throws of one type of weapon at three distances for a total of fifteen throws per round per division. The same weapon does not have to be thrown for all 3 distances but for a royal round score, all weapons thrown for that score need to be of the same division. (for example, a knife royal round score consists of 5 throws of knives at 10ft, 5 throws of knives at 15ft, and 5 throws of knives at 20ft. Different styles of knives can be thrown but they must all be knives for it to count as a knife royal round.) Each weapon type is a separate division, with separate scoring and rankings.

The thrower may throw each distance in order or they may change the order as needed per the marshal's choice. As an example, a thrower can throw 5 times at 10ft, then 5 times at 15ft, and end with 5 times at 20ft. That same thrower can also throw 5 times at 20ft, then 5 times at 15ft, and finally 5 at 10ft. No matter the order of distances, the thrower must declare they are throwing for score and then throw a total of 15 times in a row to be official.

==Royal Round Divisions==

The thrower may throw any number of TWRR per weapon type, but only one scoring round per weapon type may be submitted per event or per day, if an event has throws held on more than one day of that single event. At least two people must be present to witness the round, but only one need be an authorized marshal. The marshal running the TWIC throw may also throw a TWIC round.

A thrown weapon rank will be determined by the 3 highest Royal Rounds scored (as recorded on the SCA score database) within the past 365 days. The color of the head-binding knot of the tassel will indicate the thrown weapon used to obtain the rank earned.

==Frequently Asked Questions==

A. Why are the spear targets the same size as axe and knife targets and no longer on the ground?
Spear distances, target sizes, and target orientation have been changed to match the Society wide Thrown Weapons Interkingdom Competition.

B. How was the plumbata parameters determined?
Since plumbatae are not part of the TWIC, it was determined that it would be acceptable to base our parameters on the only other kingdom that presently does plumbata: the Kingdom of Atlantia. We modified as needed to fit our needs.

C. What is a good alternative to an end grain "round" of wood?
End grain target designs can be found on the facebook page: Thrown Weapons in Ansteorra. The designs can be found using plywood, some 4x4, and some 2X4 soft wood bought at your local hardware store. A video tutorial is also available on youtube (see links on FB page).

D. Why are there ranges for axes and knives but not spears and plumbatae?
For axes and knives, clarification needed to be added so that an individual could not throw at the furthest distance for all three rounds. By limiting the range for each round, it allows the thrower to show a mastery of weapons different rotations.

E. What are the specifications for sling ammo?
Sling ammunition shall consist of “soft” materials. “Soft” materials must be able to be compressed by hand. All ammunition shall be made from natural, non-metallic materials. Examples of “soft” materials would: Cloth balls, bags of dry beans, corn, or other particulate matter; any other material that is judged to be “soft” by the marshal of the field. Sling ammunition should not separate / destruct upon impact with a target. Individual sling ammunition shall not exceed 16 ounces in weight. Sling ammunition may not contain any “hard” materials including, but not limited to: rocks, baseballs, softballs, lead shot, or any other material that is determined to be “hard” by the marshal of the field.

On September 17, 2022, the Tourney of the Golden Spear of Ansteorra was held at the 35th Defender of the fort in Livingston Texas in the Barony of [[Raven's Fort]] with [[Evan Kragssen]] winning the tournament. 

==Golden Spear of Ansteorra Rules==
-The only way to acquire the Golden Spear of your Kingdom is to challenge the current holder.

-The format of the challenge is fixed and shall be strictly followed to insure this does not alter from its original intent:

-To declare the challenge the challenger declares 'I request the Challenge of the Golden Spear'.

-The proper responses are 'I accept your challenge' or 'I am forbidden from accepting your challenge'.

-The Golden Spear may only be exchanged once in any given day; if another challenger requests a Challenge to the new holder on the day they have won the spear from another, the holder is required to decline the Challenge. Otherwise, the holder may accept up to three Challenges in a given day, assuming the holder is the victor of each preceding Challenge that day.

-The holder of the Golden Spear is required to accept the first Challenge in a day. The second and third Challenges are optional, and the holder should only accept those if they feel that they can show sufficient prowess and stamina after the exertions of the first Challenge.

-Once the Challenge is issued, it should be taken up as soon as is reasonable. (And really be reasonable here - if the challenged holder would like time to warm up, that's acceptable. If they are called away suddenly by an important commitment or royal command, that is also acceptable. "Calling dibs" on a challenge immediately after the current one may be acceptable, but calling dibs for tomorrow and expecting that challenges be refused until then is not.)
A challenger for the Golden Spear may only issue a single challenge per day.

-Terms for what the contest will be determined by the participants. The challenger, as part of the challenge, will name the terms of the contest at the time of the challenge. The holder of the Spear can change ONE of the terms (distance, number of throws, method of throw, etc.).

-Throwers must comply to the safety standards of the Marshal in Charge of the range, the Kingdom of Ansteorra, and SCA rules.

-Weapons must be SCA and Ansteorra Kingdom legal. If it looks like an spear and throws like an spear, it's a spear. Only the competitors can determine if something is fair or not.

-The Golden Spear may not reside outside of it's Kingdom's borders. As such, it will revert to the previous holder or Kingdom Thrown Weapons Marshal if the current holder moves from the spear's home kingdom or stops playing.

-The Golden Spear shall be displayed prominently while at events and practices so potential challengers may know who is the current holder.

-It is the duty of the outgoing holder of the Golden Spear to make sure the incoming holder is fully aware of these rules.

-In the event that holder of the spear has not accepted a challenge in 3 months then the spear will be given to the Kingdom Thrown Weapons Marshal or previous holder who will hold a new tournament at the next practical official SCA event that has a thrown weapons range.

-Holders of the spear may modify the spear as long as it is done in good faith and in the spirit of advancing the prestige of the spear.

I love teaching archery in particular, and it felt amazing to be recognized by their Stormy Excellencies and my Prince and Princess in this way. Axeman was a fantastic event from start to finish, with a really fun rapier tournament on the planks and a closely-fought archery tournament. I got to try lyst heraldry for the first time, crying the Chiv and Youth Chiv tournaments. I did not compete in the Bardic tournament, but I did get to sing Cormac Mor's "The Submitter's Lament" between rounds, thus fulfilling a promise to my friend Lord [[Ashina Nobusada]]. There were bubbles and black olives and hot chocolate and really good bread and wonderful conversations with friends. Overall, a delightful event, and I'm excited for next year. Vivat Skorragardr!

** At Wiesenfeuer Yule, I won both the Chess championship, and more surprisingly, the A&S championship. It was my first time competing in A&S, and I'm still a little shocked, but I'm looking forward to the year ahead. I was also honored to receive a Golden Beacon in recognition of my efforts teaching archery and rapier. 
** At Winter Crown tournament I assisted with lyst heraldry and ended up heralding the semifinals! It was very exciting.

After another excellent Salle de Stormweasels practice on July 9, 2025, Veronica approached me and offered to work with me as my Doña or (following her elevation in October) as my MoD. Being unsure whether I wanted to pursue a formal studentship in rapier, I expressed that to her and asked what it would mean to be her student. In response, she offered me a Quest, consisting of fighting 100 people, speaking with the members of each Peerage and Grant order in Ansteorra, doing several kinds of service, and some amount of research and an A&S project. The Quest does not require that I commit to a formal studentship, with her or anyone else, but is instead intended to give me a broader understanding of the SCA and what studentship means so that I can make a more informed decision. All of that sounded like things I wanted to do anyway, so I have taken her Quest. Once I start, I have a year to complete it. I look forward to the journey.

* May 2025: Competed in my first archery and thrown weapons competitions at Namron Beltane, and got slain by the Rapier Dragon 
**Authorized for Rapier Archery at VMA II, and began plotting the deaths on the field of every white scarf and MoD in the kingdom

**Joined the steward team for Namron Protectorate as a minion

** Won Yeoman of the Eclipse at Mooneschadowe Triumph, and began plotting another act of sewing.

** At Skorragardr Axeman, I was honored to receive the Torsade of Namron for services to the Barony, and the Brazier of Vindheim in recognition of teaching both archery and rapier. The scrolls are beautiful, and I will wear the awards with pride. I love teaching archery in particular, and it felt amazing to be recognized by their Stormy Excellencies and my Prince and Princess in this way. Axeman was a fantastic event from start to finish, with a really fun rapier tournament on the planks and a closely-fought archery tournament. I got to try lyst heraldry for the first time, crying the Chiv and Youth Chiv tournaments. I did not compete in the Bardic tournament, but I did get to sing Cormac Mor's "The Submitter's Lament" between rounds, thus fulfilling a promise to my friend Lord [[Ashina Nobusada]]. There were bubbles and black olives and hot chocolate and really good bread and wonderful conversations with friends. Overall, a delightful event, and I'm excited for next year. Vivat Skorragardr!

** At Wiesenfeuer Yule, I won both the Chess championship, and more surprisingly, the A&S championship. It was my first time competing in A&S, and I'm still a little shocked, but I'm looking forward to the year ahead. I was also honored to receive a Golden Beacon in recognition of my efforts teaching archery and rapier. 
** At Winter Crown tournament I assisted with lyst heraldry and ended up heralding the semifinals! It was very exciting.

** At wInterkingdom, I assisted [[Bridgette of York]] with setting up the Princess Tea for Princess Adena, had a lot of fun with Vanya's Brawl-erina class, and got to compete in the Vindheim Princess Champion tournament.

====Aurora's Quest====
After another excellent Salle de Stormweasels practice on July 9, 2025, Veronica approached me and offered to work with me as my Doña or (following her elevation in October) as my MoD. Being unsure whether I wanted to pursue a formal studentship in rapier, I expressed that to her and asked what it would mean to be her student. In response, she offered me a Quest, consisting of fighting 100 people, speaking with the members of each Peerage and Grant order in Ansteorra, doing several kinds of service, and some amount of research and an A&S project. The Quest does not require that I commit to a formal studentship, with her or anyone else, but is instead intended to give me a broader understanding of the SCA and what studentship means so that I can make a more informed decision. All of that sounded like things I wanted to do anyway, so I have taken her Quest. Once I start, I have a year to complete it. I look forward to the journey.

Axeman was a fantastic event from start to finish, with a really fun rapier tournament on the planks and a closely-fought archery tournament. I got to try lyst heraldry for the first time, crying the Chiv and Youth Chiv tournaments. I did not compete in the Bardic tournament, but I did get to sing Cormac Mor's "The Submitter's Lament" between rounds, thus fulfilling a promise to my friend Lord [[Ashina Nobusada]]. There were bubbles and black olives and hot chocolate and really good bread and wonderful conversations with friends. Overall, a delightful event, and I'm excited for next year. Vivat Skorragardr!

** At Wiesenfeuer Yule, I won both the Chess championship, and more surprisingly, the A&S championship. It was my first time competing in A&S, and I'm still a little shocked, but I'm looking forward to the year ahead. I was also honored to receive a Golden Beacon in recognition of my efforts teaching archery and rapier.

After another excellent Salle de Stormweasels practice on July 9, 2025, Veronica approached me and offered to work with me as my Doña or (following her elevation in October) as my MoD. Being unsure whether I wanted to pursue a formal studentship in rapier, I expressed that to her and asked what it would mean to be her student. In response, she offered me a Quest, consisting of fighting 100 people, speaking with the members of each Peerage and Grant order in Ansteorra, doing several kinds of service, and some amount of research and an A&S project. The Quest does not require that I commit to a formal studentship, with her or anyone else, but is instead intended to give me a broader understanding of the SCA and what studentship means so that I can make a more informed decision. All of that sounded like things I wanted to do anyway, so I have taken her Quest. Once I start, I have a year to complete it. I look forward to the journey.

The idea for the Golden Axe of Ansteorra was shamelessly stolen from the [https://wiki.eastkingdom.org/wiki/Main_Page Kingdom of the East] at [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pennsic_War Pennsic 49] after the at the time Ansteorra Kingdom Thrown Weapons Marshal Lord [[Aki Seulf]] met with [https://wiki.eastkingdom.org/wiki/Matteo_Genovese?fbclid=IwAR1_pds5d-AsU0sPrPk2skEUPW3wDtqCspY-bhBKE6mv-H19XXunvW1Xvwo THL Matteo Genovese of the East Kingdom]. Wishing to bring back this idea to Ansteorra Lord Aki Seulf purchased an axe at Pennsic 49 and brought it home and applied real gold leaf to the metal head of the axe.

On August 27, 2022, the Tourney of the Golden Axe was held at the premier [[Vindheim Missile Academy]] in Guthrie, Oklahoma in the Principality of [[Vindheim]] in The Barony of [[Wiesenfeuer]]. In court the Queen Toryn Sevenstitches II blessed the axe in a ceremony concluding with the pouring of her drink from her chalice over the blade. 

==Golden Axe of Ansteorra Rules==
-The only way to acquire the Golden Axe of your Kingdom is to challenge the current holder.

-The format of the challenge is fixed and shall be strictly followed to insure this does not alter from its original intent:

-To declare the challenge the challenger declares 'I request the Challenge of the Golden Axe'.

-The proper responses are 'I accept your challenge' or 'I am forbidden from accepting your challenge'.

-The Golden Axe may only be exchanged once in any given day; if another challenger requests a Challenge to the new holder on the day they have won the axe from another, the holder is required to decline the Challenge. Otherwise, the holder may accept up to three Challenges in a given day, assuming the holder is the victor of each preceding Challenge that day.

-The holder of the Golden Axe is required to accept the first Challenge in a day. The second and third Challenges are optional, and the holder should only accept those if they feel that they can show sufficient prowess and stamina after the exertions of the first Challenge.

-Once the Challenge is issued, it should be taken up as soon as is reasonable. (And really be reasonable here - if the challenged holder would like time to warm up, that's acceptable. If they are called away suddenly by an important commitment or royal command, that is also acceptable. "Calling dibs" on a challenge immediately after the current one may be acceptable, but calling dibs for tomorrow and expecting that challenges be refused until then is not.)
A challenger for the Golden Axe may only issue a single challenge per day.

-Terms for what the contest will be determined by the participants. The challenger, as part of the challenge, will name the terms of the contest at the time of the challenge. The holder of the Axe can change ONE of the terms (distance, number of throws, method of throw, etc.).

-Throwers must comply to the safety standards of the Marshal in Charge of the range, the Kingdom of Ansteorra, and SCA rules.

-Weapons must be SCA and Ansteorra Kingdom legal. If it looks like an axe and throws like an axe, it's an axe. However, it is up to the competitors if weapons such as a double bladed axe or shovels will be allowed. Only the competitors can determine if something is fair or not.

-The Golden Axe may not reside outside of it's Kingdom's borders. As such, it will revert to the previous holder or Kingdom Thrown Weapons Marshal if the current holder moves from the Axe's home kingdom or stops playing.

-The Golden Axe shall be displayed prominently while at events and practices so potential challengers may know who is the current holder.

-It is the duty of the outgoing holder of the Golden Axe to make sure the incoming holder is fully aware of these rules.

-In the event that holder of the axe has not accepted a challenge in 3 months then the axe will be given to the Kingdom Thrown Weapons Marshal or previous holder who will hold a new tournament at the next practical official SCA event that has a thrown weapons range.

-Holders of the axe may modify the axe as long as it is done in good faith and in the spirit of advancing the prestige of the axe.

** Namron Protectorate happened! And it was awesome! It was an absolutely nonstop weekend, between helping with 2 processions, competing in the rapier tournament, and sanitation coordinating, but I had a blast. 
** Won Yeoman of the Eclipse at Mooneschadowe Triumph, and began plotting another act of sewing. 
* November 2025 
** At Skorragardr Axeman, I was honored to receive the Torsade of Namron for services to the Barony, and the Brazier of Vindheim in recognition of teaching both archery and rapier. The scrolls are beautiful, and I will wear the awards with pride. I love teaching archery in particular, and it felt amazing to be recognized by their Stormy Excellencies and my Prince and Princess in this way. Axeman was a fantastic event from start to finish, with a really fun rapier tournament on the planks and a closely-fought archery tournament. I got to try lyst heraldry for the first time, crying the Chiv and Youth Chiv tournaments. I did not compete in the Bardic tournament, but I did get to sing Cormac Mor's "The Submitter's Lament" between rounds, thus fulfilling a promise to my friend Lord [[Ashina Nobusada]]. There were bubbles and black olives and hot chocolate and really good bread and wonderful conversations with friends. Overall, a delightful event, and I'm excited for next year. Vivat Skorragardr!
 

====Aurora's Quest====
After another excellent Salle de Stormweasels practice on July 9, 2025, Veronica approached me and offered to work with me as my Doña or (following her elevation in October) as my MoD. Being unsure whether I wanted to pursue a formal studentship in rapier, I expressed that to her and asked what it would mean to be her student. In response, she offered me a Quest, consisting of fighting 100 people, speaking with the members of each Peerage and Grant order in Ansteorra, doing several kinds of service, and some amount of research and an A&S project. The Quest does not require that I commit to a formal studentship, with her or anyone else, but is instead intended to give me a broader understanding of the SCA and what studentship means so that I can make a more informed decision. All of that sounded like things I wanted to do anyway, so I have taken her Quest. Once I start, I have a year to complete it. I look forward to the journey.

On September 17, 2022, the Tourney of the Golden Spear of Ansteorra was held at the 35th Defender of the fort in Livingston Texas in the Barony of [[Raven's Fort]] with [[Evan Kragssen]] winning the tournament. 

==Golden Spear of Ansteorra Rules==
-The only way to acquire the Golden Spear of your Kingdom is to challenge the current holder.

-The format of the challenge is fixed and shall be strictly followed to insure this does not alter from its original intent:

-To declare the challenge the challenger declares 'I request the Challenge of the Golden Spear'.

-The proper responses are 'I accept your challenge' or 'I am forbidden from accepting your challenge'.

-The Golden Spear may only be exchanged once in any given day; if another challenger requests a Challenge to the new holder on the day they have won the axe from another, the holder is required to decline the Challenge. Otherwise, the holder may accept up to three Challenges in a given day, assuming the holder is the victor of each preceding Challenge that day.

-The holder of the Golden Spear is required to accept the first Challenge in a day. The second and third Challenges are optional, and the holder should only accept those if they feel that they can show sufficient prowess and stamina after the exertions of the first Challenge.

-Once the Challenge is issued, it should be taken up as soon as is reasonable. (And really be reasonable here - if the challenged holder would like time to warm up, that's acceptable. If they are called away suddenly by an important commitment or royal command, that is also acceptable. -The Golden Spear may not reside outside of it's Kingdom's borders. As such, it will revert to the previous holder or Kingdom Thrown Weapons Marshal if the current holder moves from the spear's home kingdom or stops playing.

-The Golden Spear shall be displayed prominently while at events and practices so potential challengers may know who is the current holder.

-It is the duty of the outgoing holder of the Golden Spear to make sure the incoming holder is fully aware of these rules.

-In the event that holder of the spear has not accepted a challenge in 3 months then the spear will be given to the Kingdom Thrown Weapons Marshal or previous holder who will hold a new tournament at the next practical official SCA event that has a thrown weapons range.

The idea of the Golden Plumbata came from a natural progression of the golden weapons. Count [[Romanius Vesperanius]] had the golden plumbata commissioned and presented to [[89th Crown|King JP and Queen Gillian]] at War of the Rams XI. Wishing to bring back this idea to Ansteorra Lord Aki Seulf purchased an axe at Pennsic 49 and brought it home and applied real gold leaf to the metal head of the axe.

On August 27, 2022, the Tourney of the Golden Axe was held at the premier [[Vindheim Missile Academy]] in Guthrie, Oklahoma in the Principality of [[Vindheim]] in The Barony of [[Wiesenfeuer]]. In court the Queen Toryn Sevenstitches II blessed the axe in a ceremony concluding with the pouring of her drink from her chalice over the blade.

-The Golden Axe shall be displayed prominently while at events and practices so potential challengers may know who is the current holder.

-It is the duty of the outgoing holder of the Golden Axe to make sure the incoming holder is fully aware of these rules.

-In the event that holder of the axe has not accepted a challenge in 3 months then the axe will be given to the Kingdom Thrown Weapons Marshal or previous holder who will hold a new tournament at the next practical official SCA event that has a thrown weapons range.
