Persona History:

I was born on July 18, 1578 in Dieppe, the principle port city in Normandy. My father, Jacques, who was a lawyer in Paris, took my pregnant mother, Madeleine, to Dieppe in 1572 when Hugenots were massacred by Catholics. He spent all the money he had to buy a boat and began shipping items across the channel to England. As his business grew, he met and did extensive business with the father of Lady Robin Anderson of Ross, who is married to Baron Conor Drummond. After my older brother, Marc, was killed fighting for King Henri the IV in the Battle of Ivry in 1590, I was sent to Scotland to live with Baron Conor, and work as his valet. During my time with Baron Conor, he thought it best to teach me to fight, as his estate was regularly harassed by Border Reivers. He also ensured I had a university education, and, while no longer employed by him, I remain close to him and his family. Now, I teach Rhetoric at a university in a place called Bryn Gwlad. I came to Bryn Gwlad when Baron Conor was called to be the Captain of the Guard there. On one of the trips to London with Baron Conor, I had the good fortune of hearing a play by a writer named William Shakespeare. It was a wonderful experience, and I have tried, as often as I can, to travel to London to hear more of his work. My father, mother, and younger sister, Geneviève, still live in Dieppe. My sister is married to a man called David Guyot and they have two children--Isaac and André.

Interests:

"I enjoy the SCA a great deal, and what drives me is the camaraderie, the sharing of knowledge both on the rapier field and in the arena of Arts and Sciences."

I enjoy period fighting styles, particularly Rapier. Being a lover of the written word, I enjoy writing sonnets, researching and writing papers on period poetry. I enjoy teaching classes on research, writing documentation, and developing a persona.

Prior Groups

When I first started, in 1992 or 1993 or so, I was with a group called Turris Aquilae (Borger, TX), but that group no longer exists. I stopped playing SCA in 1995 and didn't play SCA again until 2003. I've been a part of Bryn Gwlad since 2003.
